I found Scott Foresman's online grammar program http://www.sfreading.com/resources/ghb.html so now I'm looking for a similar reading program. Free is always good!

Any ideas? Thanks

ETA: I'm looking for grades 2-5. Kidlets that are already reading.

We love Book adventure.  Read a book, earn points by taking reading comprehension test for the book, use points to earn prizes.  We never really liked the prizes so I set up our own reward program.  Doing this program helped me guage my son's reading level.

My son did Book Adventure for six years and loved it.  Now he's aged out of the reading levels.  We also do custom prizes, as he's earned all the present, and former, ones.  Although we do cash in the Rocky Mtn Chocolate Factory coupons for vacations.  He's been using up his stockpiled points.  ;-)  Thankfully they allow more than one earned.

free programs for download and then to print off, antique textbooks that are now copyright free.

scroll down to reading section then look for links

one is 'word mastery' which is a lot like the HS curriculum "alpha phonics"

also there are many articles on issues with sight reading method and pro's of phonics method.

Here's a program I used to supplement the reading programs I used with my children. When my dc were younger, you could get the books mailed to you. I even got enough to share with our homeschool group. Now you have to print it for yourself but it is free. This is from the web site:

Primarily designed for first grade, Starfall is also useful for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and second grade. Starfall is perfect for home schooling. Be sure to visit The Starfall Store for low-cost writing journals and books that parallel this website. www.starfall.com

Enjoy!
