I am confused what to do with free swaps. Right

now I have 44 free swaps and 1 credit. How do I know what books are available for free swaps? Thank you, Stacie

Stacie, to order books you need a credit AND A swap fee of 49cents (which is the same as "free swaps").

That means you can order 1 book with your 1 credit.

You need to earn or buy  credits to go with your "free swaps"

Stacie

there are no "free swaps", there are "free swap fees".  Since you have a Limited membership, you have 30 swap fees.  Also every time you use PBS Postage, you get another free swap fee.

so all you need is is one credit to order a pb or hc book

June,  I am a limited member.  I have a Free Swap Registry.  When I click on that tab it show my "Free Swap Balance" of 28.

So for limited members they do not mention fees, no mention of fees at all.

Yes, it could possibly be confusing. The label is misleading. But, "free swaps" are indeed "free swap fees". You still need credits to order books.

PBS is no longer "free" to use, it now costs 1 swap fee (plus 1 credit) to order a book. Membership options (limited or standard) give you a certain amount of "free swap (fees)" included with your membership, and that's what you see in your Free Swap Registry. And as was stated before, you can also get a free swap (fee) each time you use PBS psotage to mail a book.

Valerie, June is correct that Limited Members receive 30 swaps without swap fees each year.  The information below is from the Help docs.

The Limited Membership unlocks the following features to make your book swapping experiences here that much better:

Request 30 Books per year Without Swap Fees - No swap fee for your first 30 swaps per year! ($14.70 value) (note: you'll earn a Free swap fee each time you use PBS Printed Postage to send a book)

200-item Wish List - 100 more than unenrolled (A la Carte) members!

Courtesy Postage Fees - Enjoy the convenience of our Printed Postage without the 55-cent Postage Printing fee, once every quarter ( = once every 3 months; up to $2.20 annual savings).

Directed Delivery - When multiple copies of a book you order are available, we’ll determine the most expedient route to you. We take into account several factors to get your book to you as quickly as possible, putting special emphasis on the closest geographical location for “Greener swapping”!

Multi-Copy Requesting - If you’ve ever wanted to order more than one copy of a particular book for your book club, classroom or reading group, this feature is for you. As a Limited member you can choose exactly the number of copies you need from the available books, and order them all simultaneously.  No more ordering only one at a time!  Perfect for teachers, librarians, book clubs and more.

Participate in Discussion Forums - Limited Members may Post in Forums (A la Carte members are read-only).

I really dislike the title "free" swap. I think of them as a postage credit, to go with a book credit. Very frustrating to explain them.

At this time we cannot trade or gift the free swap credits.

Yes!

VolunteerVal, the Info you posted about Limited membership is correct.

I was merely trying to let Standard members "see" how it looks on a Limited members account.

I know that I need a credit and a swap fee but others are still confused about "free swaps".  I have been a standard member and it's listed at the top of the screen unlimited swaps and Standard members also have a "Free Swap Registry" at zero until they buy PBS postage.  I have been all  3 memberships, Standard, A la Carte and LImited.  To us it's crystal clear, credits and swap fee.  Others are confused that a free swap does not  mean a free swap.

Perhaps it would help if it was mentioned that you need credits to go with the free swaps on the Free Swap Registry?

I think the least confusing thing would be to just call them "swap fees".  Then you can simply explain that ordering a book always costs a credit and a swap fee, but you get some for free from the site for various things (membership or buying postage).

And I think they should do away with the term "free swaps", which is misleading and confusing, not to mention untrue.
