I enjoyed reading it (it took a month), but the title is misleading, it's not directly about the American people. It is mostly about the presidents, Hoover at the beginning, and then Roosevelt. Other than a chapter on the home front, the second half of the book is exclusively about WWII fought in Europe and Asia.
