(This is a continuation from the book description above.)
"The author's venture began when a small male lion cub was captured in the Sudan, after its mother had been killed. It was totally wild, but old enough to eat raw meat when Berggren took charge of him. This delightful cub was given the Swahili name of Simba.
...in the cold north, amidst snow, ice and frost, Simba grew up in privileged freedom. He developed into a splendid lion and accepted without question his position as a member of Berggren's family.
On other trips to Africa Berggren collected a young rhinoceros, a hyena, a leopard and a cheetah, and all joined his family."
