I finished The Front on Saturday (borrowed it from my library--I was the first one to check it out).  I thought it was better than At Rist but still a disappointment as a Patricia Cornwell book.  Has anyone else here read it, and if so, what did you think of it?

I have to admit that I haven't read a Cornwell book in years. I read three or four of them and they all got so formulaic that I had to stop. I did enjoy her book about Jack the Ripper but I think that's the last one I read. From your review, it sounds like I don't need to be in a hurry to get back to her.

Yeah, I have been terribly disappointed as of late.  I am glad I borrowed this one from the library and didn't buy it.

Although I've only read the "Scarpetta" books....I finally gave up on them.  Just couldn't handle them anymore.

Nope, I didn't like it.  I do still read the Scarpetta books and wonder why I still buy them........I think it is because I have read them all and have for so long that it is just habit.  Sometimes they are good, tho.

I just read The Front.  It seems she can't get books out fast enough so she takes basically a short story and with generous spacing turns it into a book.  It was a fast read  and not as irritating as some of the Scarpetta books.

Arlene, I think you're right about turning a short story into a book.

I'm waiting to get it at a library sale, not worth a credit if it's eanything like her last few books. I liked her earlier books but they are boring now. At Risk was her worst book so far.

I have not read the Front yet. But I have read all of the Scarpetta Series, and found that the original ones she wrote were so much better than the later ones. Anyone agree with that.?

I have some of them on my shelf, check them out and we can deal.  Jeanne

Jeanne, I agree.  The Book of the Dead was bad!

I know she has "Scarpetta" coming out on Dec. 2, and I will probably get it, and just hope it may be better than the last.  Like I said her beginning of this series was terrific, I couldn't get enough of them.  But the latest has been a little disappointing.  I think the story line is just getting old. She needs a new character will some more pizaaz///////. Or give Scarpetta some good stories like the beginning. She did start one series a way back, I think one of the books was Southern Cross, but couldn't get into it.  She is a terrific writer, just needs to go back to the beginning of her roots.

Does anyone have any ideas for books on the Historical Medical 1800's. I read the Alienist & sequel Angel of Darkness, and loved them. They already went, though. But if interested in that type, check others out. Very good.
