what happens when somebody gives a date when they will ship and then they don't mail the book?

I requested on Apr 1. The indication was they would mail on Apr 7. Now Apr 8 there is no indication they mailed the book. I hope maybe they mailed it and did not say they mailed it. The book they have is the only one of that title on pbs.

If they chose the "I can mail later" option, then they have 2 days grace beyond the mailing date they chose.  If the book isn't marked mailed by the deadline, the server will cancel the transaction, remove the book from their posted books, and put you on the wish list for the book.  (If there were other copies posted, it would order the next copy for you.)

There's a help doc with more details called What if the sender agrees to mail the book, but doesn't mark it mailed before the deadline?

The server does it's cancellations shortly after 3:00 a.m. Eastern Time the morning after the deadline.

You could also send them a gently worded PM, reminding them to mark the book as mailed before the transaction times out.

If it shows that the label has been printed, I would send them a message.  I had a WL book time out recently and I noticed they had printed the label. I sent a message basically saying "I see that you printed the label for this book but you didn't mark it mailed. It has been put back on my WL but I will put the book on hold if you mailed it and just forgot to mark it as such".  I got a quick response saying that they did forget and did mail the book and sure enough it showed up soon after.

What they said yes

Be patient and don't cancel the transaction at this point, b/c even if the member has become unresponsive for some reason the request will roll over in 24 to 48 hours.  If it's the only copy...I can't remember if the request will go to your wishlist or reminder list.  If it goes that far, do check where it ends up.

I think I am in that situation now. The person sending me the book is in my state. PBS already sent me a message asking if I had received it. But it's a no show at the present time.

Thomas, your situation is different.  Your book had to have been marked mailed, or PBS wouldn't be asking if you received it.

But was it really mailed?
