I just loved this book. Hannah is so cool, her sister so happy, and Lori is so smart. Top that off with fudge cupcakes that have a secret ingredient and the town sherriff is murdered. Good fun!

I'm really loving this whole series of books!

Bakery owner Hannah Swensen just can't keep her hands out of the batter when murder stirs things up in Lake Eden, Minnesota, leaving the sheriff dead, a deputy accused, and a killer on the loose.......

For Hannah, life seems to be lacking a certain flavor lately. Maybe it's the local sheriff's election that's got her down. For years, Sheriff Grant's been the iron hand in town. But now, Hannah's brother-in-law Bill is giving the old blowhard the fight of his long, dubious career-and Grant's not taking it well, especially once the polls show Bill pulling ahead.

But before anyone can taste victory, thing go sour. While Hannah's emptying the trash, she makes a very unappetizing discovery:Sheriff Grant's body in the Dumpster behind the high school where she's teaching her cooking class. And as if that weren't bad enough, the poor man still has fudge frosting on his shirt from one of her cupcakes.

The number one-and only-suspect is Bill, but Hannah's not swallowing it. Plenty of people had reason to hate Sheriff Grant. Soon, Hannah's dishing up a scandalous secrets, steaming hot betrayals, and enough intrigue to keep the gossip mill at The Cookie Jar going through several pots of decaf. And the closer Hannah gets to the truth, the closer she gets to smoking out a murderer with a very nasty recipe for silencing people.......

She tipped us to the murderer WAY too early in this one, and the plot is a little messy. But it's still nice to see the familiar characters again.......and the luscious recipes.

great light reading. Joanne Fluke does not rely on sex or gore to create a story that is entertaining. she often provides a few interesting factoids throughout too. and the recipes in all the Hannah Swensen novels I've read are my favorites. I use almost no other cookie recipes anymore. you don't need to let the butter soften first, and you don't need to use a mixer. and the results --yum!!!

This is the first book I've read in the Hannah Swensen series by Joanne Fluke and I really enjoyed it. It is a light-hearted mystery story about Hannah who owns a cookie shop and gets herself involved in a murder investigation when she discovers a body in a dumpster outside the school where she is teaching a cooking class. In addition to helping solve the murder Hannah also is trying to decide between two men she likes, trying to find new cat food for her picky cat Moishe, and discovering a mysterious ingredient in a fudge brownie recipe. The reader is also treated to several delicious cookie recipes throughout the book. All in all a yummy read.

Enjoyable reading not requiring a lot of thinking along with some good recipes. This is a mom-readable book. In other words there is no sex, no swearing, and no explicit violence. This is a bit racier than "The cat who" books but not by much. And perhaps the only reason one might consider it racier is that Hannah dates two guys keeping them on the hook through these books. Not sure if this changes but so far it hasn't. Being male, perhaps this is a bias showing?

Joanne Fluke is a master of pace and meter. Her books do not just work they flow! I love reading her work. I am never disappointed with her work. This 1st in the series is the perfect place to begin. Fear not! This one is a winner...there is a reason she's on so many wish lists.
