Every bit as good as Evanovich!!  Try the Southern Sisters Mystery series by Anne George, including Murder Runs In the Family, Murder Boogies with Elvis, Murder Gets A Life.  There are several others in the series, each funnier than the one before.  You can read them out of order without losing any of the story.

Thanks for the insight.  I found a bunch at a FOL sale or somewhere, and haven't yet read any.  I'm glad I put them in Mt. TBR instead of posting them now.  :)

Oh, mercy, now I have added another author to my list and more books to my wish list  :-)

Personally I liked the Anne George series better than Evanovich. I ate them up and then eagerly waited for more. Only to find out the author passed away. The Southern Sisters series remains one of my favorites of all time.

Would my 87 year old Mom like the Southern Sisters series? She could use a good laugh, but not if it's raunchy or objectionable. What do you think?

I think my favorite was Murder on a Bad Hair Day.  These are totally great for older women - very proper!

I agree about them being fine for an older lady. I got them from the library in large print for my mom to read a few years ago, and she was in her 80s. She enjoyed them a lot. Those and the Murder She Wrote mysteries were her favorites. She liked the Diane Mott Davidson mysteries, also.

Nothing raunchy in these books!  They're great fun reads!
