I don't read this genre as often as I read contemporary romance but sometimes I need a break from romance and pick up a cozy-type mystery or something I think is chick lit. I usually prefer something funny when I get in one of these moods. Funny and light..

some 'chick-lit' I've read (at least I think it's chick lit.I'm older(41) so hen-lit I like for the more seriousreading or the stuff about 'big girls' since I can relate somewhat...anyways, the funny stuff I've read have been Meg Cabot's Heather Wells books, Heather Estay's 'it's never too late to get a life' and just last night/this morning 'dating without novocaine'..kinda hard to explain but I didn't care for the story quality of 'dating without novocaine but for LOL funny in places it really fit the bill, you know? Meg Cabot's were great and funny as well. I've also liked kyra davis' sophie katz books but those, to me, are more 'serious' though funny in parts. same with  Jemima J..liked the book but it was more serious..I'm wanting funny.

I have several in my TBR pile like Scot on the Rocks, Girls Poker Night, Coffiee Kung Fu among others. are these funny? I'd appreciate any recommendations for others! I also have 'getting even'  and 'getting some' by teh same author that I *think* bought thinking it was chick lit-ish...

if Getting Even and Getting Some are by Kayla Perrin, I'm pretty sure those are of the erotic romance sort, not chick lit. For LOL funny try Monkey Star and Monkey Love fby Brenda Scott Royce. I also really enjoyed Getting Warmer by Carol Snow.

thanks! I do read erotic romance but was in chick lit mode when I ordered Perrin's books..they did sound like they'd have sex in them..hmm...guess I'll put those aside til I'm in the mood for that type read! guess that's what happens when I have too many  interests and listmanias on amazon cross over! those are defnitely on the wrong s helf then! :-) those 'monkey' titles sound like they'd be fun!

ETA: dang you're right! those are along the lines of erotica! they're 'spice'. I guess I was browsing eharlequin and thought they were like the red dress ink which I thought were chick lit..but since getting these andputting them on my TBR pile I've learned that Spice is their , well, spicier stuff! thanks for letting me know..hate to bring one of those for a slow shift at work and be surprised!

My top 3 laugh out loud funny chick lit reccommendations:

- Bitter is the New Black (by Jen Lancaster)

-Bright Lights, Big Ass (by Jen Lancaster)

-The Idiot Girls Action Adventure Club (by Laurie Notaro)

I heard the rest of the seires by Laurie Nataro is good, but I have only read the first book.  Also, Jen Lancaster is coming out with a new book "Such a Pretty Fat" this summer.  Seriously...both of these authors had me in tears with their witty sarcasm!

The Jen Lancaster books are a riot.  Great read

I picked up "the Red Hat Club" by Haywood Smith at Goodwill one day.  It was a riot and on my shelf if you are interested.

Laurie Notaro is hysterically funny!  A must read.... and then of course, there's always the ol' Bridget Jones books.

I read Party Crashers and one other one by her, Body Movers and was intrigued by the whole story and usually I don't like murder/mystery, but in Party Crashers I thought her job as a shoe salesperson was interesting!

Sophie Kinsella Undomestic Goddess was funny...much better than her Shopaholic series.

Two books I thought were hilarious are Tales of a Drama Queen and True Lies of a Drama Queen by Lee Nichols.
