I got a message today from a reciever instructing me on the proper materials to use to prepare my books for shipping.  Apparently, my gently used shipping envelopes and brown colored packing tape just weren't up to her liking!

Not only did she tell me that brown packing tape was unsightly ...she GAVE ME FULL information on where to shop in Target or Walmart for NEW ENVELOPES, ADDRESS LABELS, TISSUE PAPER  AND CLEAR TAPE...complete with prices and what isle to look for them in.

Now mind you...not only did my book make it to her safe and sound (she had no complaints there)....but it looked as "everyday shipping" as most books I recieve from all you other good senders.......tape on the flaps and edges....appropriate clearly lettered addressing....neatly wrapped in plastic inside for weather protection...etc.   I DID NOT use a well past its time envelope and mummify it with tape to hope it got where it was going...LOL.

I am laughing so hard at her message I just had to share the info....I know I should just ignore it and laugh...but I really really want to either ask her if she has any coupons for these items that she could share with and mail me (in an appropriate visually appealing way of course)...or if she is a  wrapping elf from the North Pole checking up on me for future employment (which I guess I wouldn't get!!).

Good day all!

LOL!  She'd hate me then.  I haven't used a new envelope for book in ages.  Currently I have an abundance of old sports posters left to me when our school librarian retired in May and they make great wrappers.  While I do use clear tape, my labels are printed on the backs of old worksheets, memos, etc. from my classroom and I keep the plastic bags from our local newspaper to help waterproof the books I send.  I've not had a single complaint about my wrapping. Tissue paper?  Seriously?

She wouldn't like me either.  Although I'm finally out of the brown moving box tape.  But I haven't bought a new bubble envelope in years.  I recycle mailers, paper and the mailers from my booksfree books.

Yup....right down to what isle (am I spelling that right??)!!!

Though I have to say I am content with the way I package and ship....and is neat , tidy, clean, and safe for long distance traveling even under the worst of handlings!  As far as using NEW ENVELOPES/PACKAGING...um...if we are saving money (and the environment) by "recycling" our books with each other...um...shouldn't we do the same with our packing / shipping materials as long as they are up to standard???!!!

I wonder if I should have used seasonal stamps/postage?? She didn't mention that!

That's funny.  I might have to order something from her just to see how visually pleasing the package and packaging is when it arrives.

Ask her to send photos of the items as you are still unsure of what she is meaning..LMAO!

I recycle things too and like reusing it as it's less for the trash/recycle bins.

Talk about OCD about how packages look..LOL Hope she never buys from amazon or other online places.

I want to know who it is so I can see if I have a WL book of hers in my TBR. She'll love my recycled envelope and the dog hair that always ends up under the tape no matter how often I sweep and vaccum.

LOL! Talk about anal-retentive! And love the dog hair quip. With me it's cat hair. And like the rest of you, I recycle envelopes. She'd surely hate me too!

LOL! While I have received some very "unique" packages from PBS members, I never would have dreamed of suggesting alternatives, especially as to the store and aisle in which to shop for them. :-) I recycle when practical, but also purchase new so that people have new material for recycling now and then! Honestly, many of the packages I receive are on their last legs....manila and bubble envelopes can only be used a finite number of times - and when enough tape has been torn off a box so that most of the corregation is exposed...it's trash time!

Perhaps someone should send her a suggestion that she "needs an RC for that."  Hehehe

I was going to suggest she have an RC...something along the lines of "please use NEW envelopes, labels and please do not use BROWN Tape. Please use clear.....she would love to get  something from me, complete with dog hair and recycled envelopes and plastic bags.....

This is just too funny and she wouldn't like me either. I have a whole lot of bubble envelopes now from books I have received lately. You bet I'm going to reuse them, for goodness sakes. I have received unique wrappings on my books from members such as cereal boxes, snapple boxes, a 1999 calendar and a grocery store ad. The books made it here with no problems. Wonder what she would tell them, lol. The funniest thing has to be the correct aisle! lol

Oooh, a pet hair swap!  I have a two ginger cats, one longhair, one short and a tabby that's grey, black and white.  Then there are the two dogs, one black and one a beautiful golden color.  I know that mine have generously donated the odd hair to several packages.

Recycled envs here, too - but it's cat hair that always seems to be floating in the air. At least one gets caught in the tape.

"please use NEW envelopes, labels and please do not use BROWN Tape

Wow, wouldn't that be a switch - instead of worrying about the condition of the book . . . . .

Personally, I like the brown tape because I can see where it ends so it's easier to pull off. I don't buy it often because clear packaging tape is more readily available. And I recycle envelopes whenever I can.
