I just sent 4 books using the 'mail to a friend' feature, and I used printable postage.  I got an automated message from PBS telling me I had received 'instant credit' for using printable postage, and it looks like 4 credits were added to my account.  I wasn't supposed to get credits for this transaction....does anybody know what happened?  Will the credits be subtracted when I let the system know my friend has received the books?

You should not have gotten credits for mail a friend.  Once they realize the mistake, the credits will be removed.  You might want to send them a message about it.  Good luck.

Are they in the correct tab on your main My Account page? (sent to friend, not book's I've mailed). I would definitely send in Feedback, credits should not move when Mail to a Friend is selected.

They are definitely in the "books sent to friends" tab.  I pm'd my friend, and the credits were not deducted from her account.  I checked my credits balance after I got the messages about getting the credits & I'm about 90% sure I had received an extra 4 credits.  If they don't 'go away' after I check that the books have been received by my friend, I'll send feedback so somebody can check on it.

I would send in Feedback now so they can look at the system and see what went wrong so it doesn't happen to anyone else.

You can confirm if you have credits from those books specifically by looking in your Credit Registry. Click on the blue linked word Credits in the upper right corner of the screen where the Log Out area is.

Thanks!  I looked at my credit registry, and the 'instant credits' were definitely deposited.  I'll send feedback about it.  Will let you know what the resolution is.

There was a glitch in the system.  This is the response I got:

Thanks very much for bringing this to our attention! We found that there was a bug in the system that caused members to get Instant Credits if they marked the books mailed to a friend and then printed the postage a few hours later. We really appreciate you reporting this so that we could get it fixed.

I had printed the label (without postage) and marked the book mailed, then got delayed as I was walking out the door.  A couple of hours later, I reprinted the label with postage so I could just drop it in the mail box, since I thought the P.O. window might close before I got there.

What an odd little glitch.  Almost impossible to test for.  Thanks so much for letting them know!

I send a lot of books to friends and have never had that happen.

First time for me, too, and I also mail a lot of books using the 'mail to a friend' feature.  It was because I reprinted the label with postage AFTER I had marked it 'mailed.'  I had never done that before, probably doesn't happen too often, but that was the glitch.
