Hard to believe, but a book I mailed media mail late Saturday afternoon at my small town post office in Southern California, arrived Monday at its destination: in MAINE!!   Me and the guy in Maine are both stunned.

I can only attribute it to:

A. a Government conspiracy
B. a strange warp of the space-time continuum
C. Friendly, helpful, extra-mile service at the post office

     couldn't possibly be....

          C !!!!

I work at the PO and have found that over the weekend things do tend to move faster.  I've noticed the same thing happening with my books lately.

I mailed out three books this saturday. Shipped them from home in southern CA to NJ, MA, and MI. All of them were delivered today, Monday.

Yeah, most of my books that I mail be it First-Class or Media Mail gets to my person in just a couple of days...

Of course then I have one like this one when I mailed it First-Class from here (Griffin, GA) to Trussville, AL and this is the route it is taking:

8/21/2011 10:12 PM - Electronic Shipping Info Received - GRIFFIN,GA

Later Gator,

  • 8/22/2011 11:10 PM - Enroute - ATLANTA,GA
  • 8/23/2011 11:46 PM - Enroute - HOUSTON,TX
  • 8/23/2011 11:48 PM - Enroute - HOUSTON,TX
  • 8/24/2011 10:00 PM - Enroute - BIRMINGHAM,AL
  • Now, can someone tell me why a package being shipped from GA to AL is going by way of TX??  Is it because AL and TX is in a different zone from GA?
  • Anyone?

It got thrown in the wrong sack or tub.  Human error.

I believe Media Mail travels "Space Available", and there may be more space now, at least until the USPS starts cutting back on trucks or something.  I would not count on seeing this during the December holiday season. :-)
