I really enjoyed this book. From the back cover: "Mountain climber Joe Simpson's survival of his incredible experience on Peru's Siula Grande, told in the award winning Touching the Void, is a revelation of the power of the human spirit to overcome fear, pain and deprivation of almost unimaginable intensity. Simpson's subsequent climbing experiences have tested once more his luck - or the choices - with which he's played out this game of ghosts.
Another fall in the Himalaya cripled and almost broke him. Feeling forced to test his nerve again, he struggled on crutches to 20,000 feet on Pumori, near Everest. On his descent he learned that a young, first-time climber had been killed by a falling lump of ice on the same peak. Why had this game claimed the lives of so many of his friends, shile he had survived so many events that should have meant certain death?
In an attempt to find catharsis for his confused emotions he wrote this extraordinary memoir, revealing his early life and his fifteen years of climbing on three continents, before and after the life-changing experience of Siula Grande. This compelling work of adventure and introspection will hold spellbound both mountaineers and armchair travelers."

This is a very good book. Simpson tells of his early life and how he got into the climbing game. It is well written and very worth the read. In his climbing life he had some very close encounters with death, which only spurred him onto climbing more. So many of his friends were killed on some of these mountains, but he did not quit doing the thing that was so important to him. If you are into this genre you will like this book.
