I was wondering whether all of the games require a credit?  I understand the reason for the deposit, probably a good idea.  The other site I have been using doesn't though.  Now I'm kicking myself for using the free credits I rec'd for starting up without checking the forums!

Also, just curious about the community, whether everyone is accepting of newbies :)

hope so!

There are a few "no credit" games, but any game that involves swapping books or any other goods will require at least one credit in deposit.  You'll get that credit back at the end of the swap.

Please come on over, those of us who play in the Games forum LOVE new blood .... um I mean players.

Seriously, we're very nice to newbies and very willing to explain rules.

Well All the ones I know of require a deposit of a credit (you get them back).  I wouldn't worry.  You'll get requests off your shelf soon enough and can start to play!  But, the credits are necessary because often people spend more money on the items for the games - depending on what it is - and because other game players depend on the cooperation of other members to make it work.

And, yes, most of us are VERY accepting of newbies and you will find lots of people willing and able to help and answer your questions - just ask.

Check out the "Swaps currently taking signups" thread in the game areas.  It will have the games taking sign ups!

Ha, ha!  I am raring to go.  I'll have to get my act together and add some more books so I can get some points to join the action.  My favorite games so far on my other site are the elephants.

Hope to see you all in games soon!

No - you meant blood! Don't try to hide it!

The games forum is FULL of elephant swaps of every kind and we do love new players.  Be prepared to jump in with both feet, as you'll be addicted in no time.  Just beware of any swap that might have something to do with breaking a record :)

Be careful the games are addicting.  I got involved in 7 games at once and ended up sending out 2 books I hadn't read yet because the deadline came and I ran out of time.  So start off slow unless you have books you've already read that fit a swap.

I just joined my first game (the only guy in the game).  It looks interesting.  Hopefully I can get something I actually want to read!  :)

That's good to know. I've thought about joining a couple of the games, but the Games forum is really intimidating! It seems like everyone already knows what they're doing.

I was intimidated at first when I joined a "newbie" swap.  But honestly, every single swap game has so many helpful people that will talk you through the whole thing!    I think that there are some taking sign-ups in the games forum right now.

I was scary silly of the swap too.  Then someone talked me into joining one.   I did it when I realized I did NOT have to understand all the rules to begin with - all I had to do is just follow what they tell me to do - one step at a time.  You ALWAYS are supposed to get a PM before your move.  IF you have questions - everyone is so helpful.  Come on over ya'll!!

I'm going through swap withdrawel.  I can't join any because of my cross country move coming up.  I've been really fighting the urge to go see what's going on in the games forum.  I just keep telling myself there'll be good games starting after my move.

There have been a couple of "newbie" swaps that were specifically designed for newbies to learn the ropes (some <ahem> "established" players played too, to help out).  That's where I learned to play.  Perhaps someone can be persuaded to start a new one, since there are players eager to learn?

I'm so glad Susan started this thread.  I've been addicted to CMT and the bazaar since I joined in January, but the few times I've cheked it out, it does seem pretty intimidating.  Now that I've got a few credits to play with, maybe I'll try it out :)

I was so afraid to join my first game....then I started hosting and now I'm the Co-leader of the Games forum with Ani.   As everyone else has stated, the games are a fun place to be. Everyone is extremely nice and willing to help you through your first game or two.....Just think of them as yankee swaps but with books. That might help ease your mind a bit.

I've also been the one who hosts  the newbie swaps. Normally I would go ahead and start another one (it would be my 3rd)  for you all, but work has been insane and it's hard for me to update as much as I like during the day.  BUT I did just start a new swap and, granted it's for us early birds, but we'd love to have some "newbies" join who want to get their feet wet.
