I'm reading this series and thoroughly enjoyed this installment. Jack had to go to Fl. where his dad has moved and lives in a retirement community. His dad is in the hospital after an accident and in a coma. His dad has a neighbor looking out for him - a scrawny old woman who dresses in bright colors and turns out to be much more than she appears. One of the things I liked about this installment is Jack actually gets to know his dad a lot more and his dad gets to know more about him. In this story they actually partner up for a bit. Jack is investigating the accident - a hit and run. Turns out his dad was supposed to be a sacrifice, but the police got to the scene too fast. Jack figures that out with the help of the old lady, Anya, and discovers a warren of mis-formed humans living near a nexus of the Other side that has also given one, in particular, paranormal powers which are mind blowing. Enjoyed everything except when he says he goes into the non air-conditioned house to get out of the sun and cool off. If you've ever lived in a non-air conditioned house in Fl. you would know that going inside does not cool you off. Good story, good characters, nice reconciliation with his dad and all done while hurricane Elvis circles and comes back to add to the action.
