You people are so easy :) I can't decide. First, it has to grow for me (that helps anyway). I like violas - I keep going back to the greenhouse and buying more colors - oriental poppies, although I haven't gotten them going well here, and daffodils/narcissus (thalia is a very nice one). |

LOL, yes poppies. I once found the most gorgeous page of, yes, opium poppies. I think it was English and he'd obviously spent a lot of time hybridizing them because they were beautiful, the prettiest poppies I'd ever seen. I don't think opium poppies are hardy here (not that I was really going to risk that!). When I looked for the page again, which was probably at least a year later, it seemed to be gone. My grandmother grew the orange ones and there seem to be quite a few of them around here. I remember picking some once and actually watching the blossom unfurl, just like tissue paper - awesome. When I lived in Wyoming I had orange and pink ones and they did well but were a horrible combination. I was beginning to think I'd imagined the name of the pink one until I finally found a stray photo of it somewhere. It was called "Pink Lassie" but it seems to have disappeared. The problem with them is that they are an eyesore after their short bloom time. I like tulips (there are a zillion kinds!) but they don't last long. I am thinking of trying a kind of zinnia this year - forget the name of it. |

Can't say I have a favorite b/c I know so few but I was and still am stuck on dahlias. The word "dahlia" just rolls so beautifully off the tongue too. :) |
