Crap, the Necklace didn't work out, the person pm'd me that it was an ARC and was that OK? HUH?!! What part of "ARCs are not postable" did you not understand? I canceled the order, now I don't know whether or not I really want it. I have more than plenty to read. |

That sucks, maybe you could get it from your library? |

I stopped using our local library to borrow books years ago. My own collection is better than theirs in the categories I read, and my TBR pile is huge enough. I do use the library to look up things in Consumer Reports, and twice a year go to the FOL sales, and get more for the TBR pile. No return deadlines! I put The Necklace on my reminder list, if I get interested again I can always re-order it. Devil sounds like an interesting story. There is so little worth the money for a ticket at the movies these days, might have to look into that one. |

That sucks. They must have known it was an issue or they wouldn't have asked. Some people's kids..... |

Just finished reading Black Diva of the Thirties The Life of Ruby Elzy by David E. Weaver. I'm a little outraged at this point that I had never heard of her because she was born about sixty miles from where I live, and her mother spent most of Elzy's adult life in a town fourteen miles away from me as the only teacher of the black school. (This was during Jim Crow.) Elzy was the first Serena in Porgy and Bess, Gershwin wrote a song specifically for her voice. She performed at the White House for Eleanor Rossevelt at Mrs. Rossevelt's request. That's pretty friggin' famous and influential if you ask me. Why am I outraged that I have never heard of her? I was required to take a MS Studies class in high school in which we learned about influential and famous native Mississippians. We covered Bobbie Gentry of Ode to Billy Joe fame, but no Ruby Elzy?!? WTF I dunno what's up with the wierd font, it won't go away. Last Edited on: 4/10/12 8:03 AM ET - Total times edited: 2 |
