It takes place in Cornwall, and on to France, to see the destruction in the wake of the French Revolution .

The plot is the love story of Stella Sprigg, adopted daughter of the farming family of Spriggs and Midshipman Anthony OConnell, and takes place during the Napoleonic Wars.
