I would highly recommend buying the newer edition, as it comes with a DVD of births in various locations and situations (home, birth center, vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), back labor, "slow to start" baby, etc.) all with positive outcomes. The book is also highly informative and a great place to start one's journey into pregnancy, birth, parenthood or research for these fields. Barbara Harper is obviously very passionate about water birth, and she explains in detail how and why water birth is a safe way to have babies -- and the many benefits to the laboring mom ("ahhhhh" :) laboring in water is wonderfully relaxing and helps diminish pain!!).
Great book, though, again the 2003-ish edition is a bit updated (just scan the newer bits at Borders if you don't want the DVD). Enjoy!
