Clearly written with an emphasis on working with formulae, ratios, etc. For example, the chapter on patterns of diversity ends with a discussion of predators; "predation certainly provides an alternative regulation of species diversity to that offered by competition." An explanation of mathematically figuring derivation of eq. and another on measures of diversity folows. Bibliography and index.
