I  just had another WL book offered to me where the system shows I'm #17 in the line.   Is #17 a 'magic number'?   'Cause that's the second time in a month I've been #17 and had the book offered to me.

Also, on my WL it says "#17 of 38" wishers, but on the tab where the book was offered to me it says 45 wishers.  I've never noticed a discrepancy like this before. Anyone know what's up?

Did a friend offer you the book?

I don't know why the discrepancy is there, I'm going to see if that's the case with me too.

I bet a friend offered you the book. I like the feature but I have to say it stings a wee bit when you're #1 on the WL and you see it has been posted, the line goes down and it was obviously posted to a friend. But that's the way the book passes...

Not on my friends' list nor a name I even recognize.  Can someone post directly to my WL?

--for example, if it's a stranger who has seen my posts in the forums, might they want to post directly to me as if they were a 'friend'?

Heard via PM from the book poster.  She says when she posted it on 17th, it said it was awaiting answer from another member. So even if that person turned it down, that's still a lot of people between her and me as #17 that must have their accounts on vacation hold.

Weird. Could that happen if the people in line in front of you all had it on their wish lists, but it was on hold for all of them (except that first person who turned it down)? I have lots of wish list books on hold. Maybe others do too. I'm not sure if wish list books on hold show up in the count of the number of people wishing for a book, but I'd guess they do. Then they'd get auto-skipped in the line.

I know you can post directly to someone's wish list even if they are not a friend. I have done it often. If someone ordered a book from me previously and I have had a positive transaction, I will check and post to their wish list if I have the next in the series for that author.
