Excellent read, good Hillerman book even if you've never read any of his mysteries before.

Fascinated by the southwest native culture...as seen through the eyes and heart of Officer Jim Chee. The conflicts it brings between his native customs and "the law".

My husband told me this was the best Hillerman he had read so far. We have several more to be read then will post them. This was a real mystery and toward the end keeps you guessing. I just finished it last night so wanted to post it right away. You'll enjoy it from page one.

So...so plot. Good Navajo lore and culture....but just an OK Hillerman read.

Mr. Hillerman had outdone himself again! He treated the Native Americans he wrote about with honor and respect, as it should be (no, I'm NOT Native American). We lost a great author when he passed away. A top-notch mystery!!

Tribal policeman Jim Chee hunts for a killer from the Navajo reservation all the way to Las Angeles and back while trying to find a young girl who does not realize she is in danger from the same man. This book involves hired killers, mafia, and the witness protection program, which is why I feel it is not one of Hillerman's better works. This is the seventh of the Chee/Leaphorn books, featuring only Chee. Chee is not only a policeman but studying to learn the healing arts of his people before they are lost forever. There is a significant amount of Navajo lore in this one.

Tribal policeman Jim Chen is such a nice guy with a gentle likeability. I enjoyed listening to him speak think and reason. The Indian culture is something to be admired, as well as the mystery and getting to puzzle out a solution with Jim. Three hours spent with this guy as I toodled around town was welcome. In Chen's world, I found myself Traveling across the land and meeting interesting characters on the way to the satisfying conclusion and understanding of "The Ghostway".
