I would like to suggest that I should be able to gift my credits to someone rather than buying new ones. For example, I would like to get my Mom started, but I have a bunch of credits so I don't see the logic in paying money to get her some credits.

Thanks,

d

If your mom has an account, all you need to do is buddy her some credits.

She doesn't have to send out books to set up an account.  Although it does look odd when someone has no books posted. She would not get the 2 free credits until she posted 10 books. But you can buddy her some of your credits.  It's very easy.  YOu just click on her profile and hit the give credits button.  Or you can add her to your buddy list.  I know a few people on here who hate mailing out books and keep most of their books anyway. They buy credits from people who earn more credits than they can spend. So they have no books posted.  I think for a new member though it can look odd for them to have no books posted.  So maybe put her account on vacation and put a note in her profile that for budget reasons or time constraints she is not sending out any books at this time.  Then put her WL books on autorequest.

Like Barbara said, you can gift credits to whomever you want to.  They just have to have an account and you add them to your buddy list and buddy some credits over.  It's done all the time.

Just wanted to add that there is a Give Credits button a person's bookshelf too. Welcome to you and your mom!

I don't think new members can buddy credits. David posted that he has not yet received 2 books, so he can't yet change his mailing address or specify an alternate address when requesting books. I think buddying credits goes along with those features, and it's only open to members who've already spent their startup credits.

My sister signed up and I buddied her 5 credits with no problem.  Now she's getting requests so she's getting even more credits...

Of course, I had to help her mail out some books. :-)

Thanks for the very helpful replies. I don't see he give credits options anywhere yet, but I haven't added any buddies. I will setup my Mom when home for Thanksgiving and then see if the give credits button shows up. If its waiting on me receiving two books then its going to be a while since I am traveling.

If your mom creates a publc profile, you can send her credits that way too, just by clicking on her profile.  You'll see a "give credits" button there.

Cathy's right, though.  If David hasn't received his first two books requested by using his startup credits, he can't yet gift credits to other members.  It's in red near the bottom of the first page of the Help Center document  How do I give credits to other members?

Once he's gotten his two books, though, it's on like Donkey Kong.

woohoo, posting before coffee lol.  Happy Turkey Day.
