I couldn't get into Dobie's writing style at all. Memoirs account for some of my favorite reading and this type of memoir is along the lines of what I like so i was expecting to really get into it. Instead I found myself not caring about anyone in the book. Not Dobie herself, not her family and not her friends. I didn't care about their problems or escapades.
The writing is way over detailed. I'm not sure why some author do this - to make themselves seem more intelligent? A certain number of words needed or desired? Talking about one thing where someone would normally use two sentences, this author used 6. Far too much useless detail. The key word being 'useless'.
All in all, it's boring. It's very, very slow to start. I honestly can't think of anything good to say about this.

This was particularly poignant for me, having grown up in small-town Connecticut in the same era as the author. While I certainly wasn't in the same bad-girl league, I certainly could've been. She really expresses the uncertainty and--yes--innocence of early sexuality.

Wow! There's no beating around the bush here. If you're easily offended or if the truth offends you, I wouldn't recommend this one. I completely tuned everything out to finish this one.

Sad and intense but a brave story to tell.

Kathy Dobie's memoir includes a very disturbing account of a young teenage girl's sex life.

Autobiography of a woman's childhood and adolescence, the id's she tried. Possibly had an attachment disorder.

okay - so she was a slut for a couple months when she was 14/15 years old. not very original. so she was gang banged. but she put herself in that position. she wasn't beaten. she wasn't raped. we've all had sexual encounters that we have regretted the next morning. get over it.
