Fortunately Rodney had long since come to realize that his feeling for Jessica was not real love at all, but a temporary youthful fascination.
As in all of Mrs. Hill's novels, the closely knit plot of this story of Rodney Graeme's return from the wars develops at a fast pace, involving Jessica and her husband who is using his young wife as a tool in a ruthless scheme. Although probably unaware of Carver De Groot's evil intentions, Jessica was by no means averse topursuing her former sweetheart, especially since he had returned resplendent with military honors. She is urged on too by a Graeme cousin, Louella Chatterton, a trifling, dissatisfied woman, who is involved in the unsavory plot to ruin Rodney.
The suspense grows as the plot unfolds. In spite of their clever machinations, the evil-doers are brought to just punishment. In the end, freed of Jessica's annoying attentions, Rodney finds the girl who isjust the right girl for him.« less
