This was literally the best book that I have read in years. Lehane's books are always some of my favorites, but this one is special. His characters are well defined, and all are memorable, both good and bad. I don't usually post book reviews, as I always feel that a book can mean different things to different readers, but this one held my attention so well that I had to write something. One can only hope for a sequel with Danny and Nora in New York, or Luther and his family in Tulsa....or both!

Oh, goodness. Historical fiction lovers. I have never read about the pre-union USA living conditionds in such detail, and being from Boston it was stunning. I usually read WWII historical fiction. It's long and you can skim lots, but it's so true.
