I had an odd thing happen today, and i was wondering if it ever happened to anyone else before.

Last week i ordered a book. It was the only/last one on the site at that time. I waited and waited and waited for someone to say, hey i can mail it at such-and-such a time. But 6 days later, here i was, still waiting.

Well i was going to let it run its course, and if no one posted it and it went back in the system, i was just going to wait and put it on my wish list and wait for the next person to come along.

Today i get a PM from a member saying, she mailed my book, but it came back to her, and could she have my address again, please?

Well, the book i ordered and was waiting on was the ONLY transaction on my account at the moment. I got my other book i had been waiting on today, and i had already marked it received.

So i asked her, which book was it, because she was not the person who it listed that i was waiting on, i checked by hitting the PM button on the window.

She came back and told me which book, and sure enough, it WAS the book i was waiting on. So i told her, i didn't expect this other girl to come through for me, her shelf only had like 11 books on it, and i figured she took advantage of her free credits and wasn't checking the site anymore. I would cancel my request with her, put the book on my wish list, and she could post it directly to me. I put it on my WL, and sure enough, i was in spot 1 of 1.

So... a little while later, i got an email: WISH GRANTED. Yay!

And... it's not the same girl, lol.

So i emailed the other girl back and told her i was really sorry, but someone else got to my WL before she did, and i was just going to accept the book and go on my merry way, and i hoped we'd meet again on a book transaction in the future.

I hope she's not upset, but i know as soon as she puts the book into the system it won't be long before someone nabs it, it's a very popular book.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? I still don't understand how my request could have been forwarded to two people, when there was only one book on the site. UNLESS she had two accounts, and i would think someone would be smart enough to email me from the account the book is located on.

What a day. =)

What is sounds like happened is that your request went to the first girl (the one who tried to mail it and it was returned) and the request timed out at some point along the way.  Members have to respond back that they accept the request and that they've mailed it out within a certain frame of time.  So she must have accepted the request, got your address, and mailed the book out to you, but forgot to mark it mailed out and it timed out.  The request then moved on to the next person (the one with 11 books that you saw it waiting on).  Then it sounds like somebody else just posted the book before the first girl did, so the request went to her.

I'm slightly confused about the timeline of it all, since it seemed to have happened in a relatively short amount of time.  Plus the wishlist thing is a little off too...so maybe somebody else can come in with more of a response.

Maybe the first one hit the cancel button instead of the book has been mailed button. Then your request went to the second member. If that happened, you'll see a canceled transaction in you transaction archive.

I don't see how you could cancel your request with the second member and then put the book on your wish list though. If you canceled that request, the book should have gone onto her shelf again and then you would not be able to wish for it, you'd have to request it again and the request would go back to her.

I don't see why i wouldn't be able to wish for something just because i canceled a transaction that (i thought) wasn't coming through. I thought that once you canceled on someone, you would no longer have access to THAT particular book from that person.

OKAY, i checked my transaction archive... here's the answer.

Girl #1 timed out, and did not respond to my request. It says No Answer from Sender in Alloted Time. SHE is the one who said she sent my book but it came back to me. I don't see how she could have done that... doesn't make any sense.

So i unwittingly canceled on Girl #2. Oops. My bad. I never got an email saying that my first request had gone unanswered, so i guess i assumed i was still waiting on the same person.

Then i put it on my WL, and Girl #3 has come along and granted the wish.

Whew. What a circus. Next time, i'll just check my archive when an odd situation comes up like this. I forgot it was there, and that it would have all the info for my perusal.

Thanks, Ladies!

If you as the requestor cancel, then the book goes back onto the sender's shelf at the first FIFO position. If you request it again, then you are requesting it from the same person. The thing about not having access to a particular copy is only if the sender says the book does not meet the requestor's conditions. It is not applicable if the requestor cancels. This is why it's not usually a good idea to cancel a request just because you're tired of waiting. You just end up requesting from the same member again and waiting even longer.

In any case, you cannot put a book on your wish list if a copy is available in the system, even if that copy does not meet your requestor conditions. However, I did think of a scenario that could explain what happened. Sender #1 timed out because she printed your address but did not click Book Has Been Mailed. Your request got passed along to Sender #2. Then somebody else put the book on his/her wish list. Then you canceled, so Sender #2's copy was offered to the person who was then on the wish list. Then, since Sender #2's copy was tied up in a wish list request and there were no others available, you were able to put the book on your wish list and Sender #3 came along and posted it.

Ah, i see the difference! Well, anyhow, i am glad it worked out the way it did... and Girl #1 PM'd and said, no biggie, she hopes i enjoy the book. So all is good.
