I've decided I'll save on packing tape if I use a glue stick when applying the mailing address/postage to the front of my packages instead of taping them. Hopfully it also saves a little on the weight. It seems to work nicely and looks very neat and orderly. I don't run the risk of taping over stamps or DC barcodes, either.

Does anyone else do this? The book is well packaged, so I don't run the risk of glue somehow seeping onto the book. It's a glue stick anyway.

Personally, I'd worry about the address coming off.  If I were you I'd write the address under the label, just in case.   I always put tape over any label I put on a package to be sure it doesn't come off and to make sure the ink doesn't blur.

In my experience, most glue sticks aren't particularly secure so I would worry about loose edges catching on postal machinery and peeling off the package.  Local weather is another reason (like Cozi) I tape over the address label, helps minimize ink smearing unless the package is totally saturated to the point water runs under the tape (received one in that condition).

I use a little glue stick to place the address label and then tape.

Like some of the others said, I wouldn't be too confident in the glue sticking the label securely.

Where can I get those clue sticks in bulk quantities? I want to carry a large bag of them with me wherever I go and just hand them out.

And maybe send a few thousand to Congress...

I'd definitely worry about the label coming off, especially under certain weather conditions. At a minimum, I'd write the address and your return address under the label. If you don't have the return address on there, USPS won't be able to send it back to you if/when the label comes off; if you don't have the recipient's address on there, your return addy will look like it's the recipient and they might not return it.

I always include mailing information inside the package (under the plastic wrap), JIC.
