This is an excellent read, especially around the holidays. Shepherd is irreverant and this book will make you laugh out loud many times over. You will see many similarities to the hit move "A Christmas Story," but you will see an ever deeper side to the story. Depending on your background you might even relate. Give it a read... you won't be sorry.
I really liked this book. It is the basis for A Christmas Story, but it contains much, much more than the movie. What helped me is that the narrator from the movie is the author, so it was like I could hear his voice reading it. It was perhaps a bit darker than the movie, but all in all a good look at this boy's childhood.
This is a cute collection of recollections of the adult Ralphie Parker about his depression era childhood. A favorite holiday movie, A Christmas Story, is based upon this book. The author is the narrator of the film.
