So this arguement I had with my cousin still has me going and with this religious topic I came down here to chew it over with y'all. Im curious about everyones opinion no matter what your religion but Im especially curious about how the Christians will answer this. Mainly because she professes to be a Christian and I want other Christians POV.

My cousin told me she was going to pray for me because "My God doesnt want you to live this way." Now I dunno what god she talks to but when I talk to God, and I talk to God every day (surprising isnt it?) he never tells me Im living a bad life. I know free will blah blah but showing me a different path isnt the same as making me take it. God hasnt shown me a different path yet so I take that as a pretty good indicator that Im on the right one.

But what I really wanna know is, is God your God or is he OUR God? If my life is vastly different from yours does that mean that the God I talk to is different than the one you talk to? If God tells me one thing and tells you something vastly different are both answer right or is one of them wrong? God cant be wrong right? So how can the info God gave me be wrong and how can the info God gave her be wrong? But how can we both be right?

I am a Christian and I believe:

There is one God. Period. God loves you no matter what you are, what you look like, what race you belong to, and how you live. I don't believe in being legalistic. That is to say, I don't live and try to do everything perfectly so that He will love me. He already loves me but I am human. I make mistakes.  I try to be a good person because of my relationship with Him and I want to please Him.

Your relationship with God is personal and unique.between you and Him. Do what is in your heart. and don't listen to what others say. It is God's opinion that counts----not theirs.

Chris, God is God, the same for every single person.  The only way I might say my God, your God, etc., is if someone said the God they worshipped was Zeus, or the flying spaghetti monster.  Then it is a different God.  I would never presume or say that God has given me revelation about any other person, and what He thinks of them or how they live.  I do believe in The Bible, so therefore I do think that God has laid certain things out there.  But even still, I don't believe that God wants me to judge others or tell them He is not happy with them.  I don't speak for God.

There are a lot of people who like to use their belief in God as a weapon of sorts, and claim him as their own.  It's very arrogant.

I have a friend who tells a great story about one of her relatives who used "his God" to bully people around to do things for him.  He was having some kind of function, and he needed several pies baked, so he called another member of the family known her her baking skills and told her that "God had put it upon his heart to call her and ask her to bake those pies he needed."  The best part of this story is what she told him.....she told him that God hadn't contacted her about any pies, but as soon as he did, she would sure get back to him and let him know.  He was seething!  Guess he didn't like sharing his God after all.......

He never did get those pies, BTW.

The God who created the universe is the God of the Bible.  He is a Holy God and as his followers we too are to be holy, that means in everything we do and say.  If you are doing what is in opposition of God's word, then you are not following him, but are following a false God.  There is a spirit world all around us and many voices in the world.  If you are hearing a voice and it is in direct opposition to the word of God, then you are following a demonic spirit. May-be that is a little heavy for you to understand, but to get more information on the subject, read the BIBLE.  I hope this has enlightened you.

I do read the bible and to quote one of my fave posters here at PBS my version is not the make your own conclusions version but I want one to see what all the fuss is about. And BTW you dont know what my side is nor do you know hers. The only info I gave was that we disagreed and she claimed God to be her own. How dare you say Im following a demonic false god!

Well, Chris it isn't an easy answer.  My belief is that if there is a creator, there is one and only one creator.  Since we don't know exactly the nature of this entity, it's up to human interpretation to assess it.  Everyone will assess it differently, of course - and that's why there is so much strife in the world.

All I can do is talk from my own experience - your experience may be different, and probably is, and everyone's experinece is just as valid as every one else's.   I know when I am living a life that "feels right" with my "God" and when I am not.  I suspect you know when you do, too.  That's all that matters.  There will be people who claim their way is the only way (like your cousn, and Old Woman up there) - I can't see how that could possibly be Truth, because if "God" wanted us to know the answers, s/he/it would have provided them, and there would be no questions.

My advice is to be well and live your own Truth. :)

BTW when I say I talk to God and God talks back I dont literally hear a voice. By the results of my actions and the way I feel about what I have done is how I believe God speaks to me.

Just to be the devil's advocate (no pun intended), if a person uses the term "My God" it seems to me the person is admitting a belief in multiple God's.  Their "good" God against everyone else's.

As you know I'm in the undecided camp.  But, my philosophy is many paths, one God/creator/source.   I know others disagree but that's what I feel. Personally, if there is a God, I don't think he/she is rating one person's path against another. If that path is believing in multiple Gods, no God, Allah, or a Christian God, it doesn't matter as long as that path leads you to compassion, humanity, love, kindness, etc.  If God is all knowing, he/she would probably come to the conclusion that everyone travels down different roads and needs different lessons, different ways of growing.

Not me.  I use it as "my God/Truth" vs. anyone else's version of reality.  No good, no bad, it just is.

LG--I see your point.  I think you use it different than the way that Chris' cousin used it.  In her case, I think it was meant as condescension.  "My God is better than your God" rather than "this is the truth from my perspective, but it may not be the truth from where you stand".
