This is another Verne staple: to take a classic (in this case, Robinson Crusoe) and re-work the plot with something of The Swiss Family Robinson (complete with amble wildlife) worked in for good measure. It's a story of survival of two men who, from their backgrounds, are rather misfit for the task. But, true to old Crusoe and Friday, they manage quite nicely; at least for a time. Then things get a bit sticky-wicket. Fear not; all's well that ends. The denouement, also typical of Verne, explains the unknown, yet is somewhat ludicrous.
