Hi guys! I wanted to let everyone know that I'm putting my account on hold until after Hurricane Gustav makes it way through the Coast. We were going to evacuate, but the hotels are filled up all the way to Atlanta, so we are going to hunker down right here and hold on to our hats. We expect to be fine because we aren't getting the full force of the storm, and our only big worry is flooding. I don't think my land will flood though because we didn't flood even during Katrina when the rest of my town dealt with a storm surge of up to 14 feet. We probably will lose our power for a while though, so if you don't hear from me for a while, you'll know I'm melting in this August heat! ;-)

Keep my books in your thoughts. The entire house can go, but my book room better be left standing!

Good luck to any others who live on the Gulf Coast!! Gustav isn't our only worry, Floridians are keeping their eyes on Hanna too. Marci, stay safe!

Oh, Marci has gallstones right now and is in a lot of pain. I hate that she has to worry about a hurricane on top of that. Send good thoughts Marci's way!

Everything was fine here. We barely even got tropical force strength winds, and the book room made it through just fine. Whew! Now, we'll be watching Hanna and keeping those on the East Coast in our thoughts. Then, we'll be watching the one right behind Hanna, can't think of the name, and it's supposed to go to the Gulf Coast, so you'll have to send good thoughts to me again. I think there is another tropical wave right behind this one and who knows where it will go. I'm so sick of hurricanes, and I'm beginning to despise the sight of The Cone of Death! I hate The Cone!

So, you guys are going to be spending the next week focusing on: "Gotta send good thoughts to Marci on the East Coast, oh, gotta send good thoughts to the Gulf Coast, East Coast, Gulf Coast...OMG! I forgot to send good thoughts for Valli's books! Aargh!" Your brains are gonna explode! LOL!

Hey Anne! I'm so glad to see you here!!

I am so glad to hear you are safe!  I will certainly send good thoughts Marci's way.  I hope she is feeling better.  I'm planning a vacation in Florida in November, so I am always watching the Gulf this time of year.  Seems a litle more busy than usual or is it just the really "active" part of the season?

Cheryl, this is the active part of the season.  August and September are the busy months for hurricanes. Not that they can't or don't come sooner or later than these two months, they definitely have and will again, but these are generally the most busy months.

I saw on the news a few minute's ago that they are expecting all three of the storms currently named to merge together and head up the East Coast. If any of you are in harm's way, make a list of stuff to buy and get ready. If anyone could use a list, because it's been a while since the East Coast has had a large hurricane, I'd be happy to send my list. I've had plenty of occasions to perfect it over the years. ;-)

Well, I survived TS Hanna here in NJ -- lots of rain, not as much wind as expected, but there's water EVERYWHERE on the roads.  We spent the afternoon at a fundraiser for our pipe & drum band and when we came out of the bar, the road and parking lot were flooded.  I'm not sure if I'm happy I wore sandals or not.

Hoping that everyone in the way of Ike keeps safe... Hanna turned out to be nothing but a lot of rain for us here.   I'm still waiting for a big one to hit Jersey one of these days.

I just wanted to say that the weather guy who said these storms were going to blend together and head up the East Coast is a LIAR! I do not understand why they say stuff like that if they aren't sure. I think this old weather guy needs to retire!  I'm so ready for hurricane season to be over!

Anne and Marci - I'm glad Hanna didn't beat you guys up too badly! How long has it been since a big one hit NJ or NY? It seems like it's been a long while.

Anne, I'll send my list  to your email address since it's kind of long. Then, if "The Big One" ever hits NY, you'll have a list and be ready to go. ;-)

It was not bad at all.No worse than a rainy night. There was some flooding but not near me as far as I know. It has been a while since a big one has hit New York. I do not even remember  the last one. Sometimes when it rains really hard here that can cause a problem.

I can;t remember the last hurricane to officially hit in NJ/NY - it was before I lived here.  however, I do remember the remnants of Hurricane Floyd which came through and flooded a lot of NJ.  Several of my friends were affected by that storm.

We're over due for a direct hit -- and in a weird way, I'm eager for it.  My husband doesn';t think hurricanes hit this far north.
