This book kept in its grip from the beginning to the end. I had trouble making it through sometimes, because it is so graphic and children are involved. As a parent it made me think, more than I wanted to about the reality of child abduction. I would recommend this book, but know that it is very graphic in places and it will stay with you.

Probably my favorite of this wonderful series by Lehane (Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro). Please do not be turned off of these books by the movie that was made. The movie was a decent representation of the events in this book, but didn't even touch on character development and all of the personality behind the two main characters, and that is what makes these books great.

Four year old Amanda McCready disappeared from her bedroom one night while her mother was next door visiting a neighbor. At least that's what her distracted, chain-smoking drug using mother, Helene, says. When Amanda's Aunt and Uncle want a little bit more attention paid to Amanda's disappearance than Helene does, private investigators, Gennaro and Kenzie agree to take the case. When they start digging around for clues, they find themselves surrounded by disreputable characters, drugs, money, filth and dead decaying bodies.

This book is a good read but not for the faint hearted.

A gut-wrenching story of little children being abducted/kidnapped. But the story goes further than that; it delves into the lives of those who shouldn't have had children in the first place and those who want to see justice done. Disturbing but sadly believable.

Kidnapping of a young child becomes very, very complicated. Lots of action, violence and intrigue.

The book is excellent. The movie they made of it is NOT. Dennis Lehane is a great writer. The subject matter in this is raw, unfiltered, haunting and powerful.

This is such a good book. It is very graphic about child abuse and abduction. I did have to put it down several times just to get the images from my head, so beware it can haunt you. It is so sad that that this is a reality we live in. This is a very good book, I highly recommend it, but again be prepared to go into a very dark and graphic world.

One of the best books I've read in a long time. Dennis Lehane is turning out to be one of my top favorite authors.

One of Lehane's darker novels, but good all the same. Deals with drugs, dirty cops and child abuse. Has some graphic chapters, but is realistic. Having worked in both the prison system and child welfare, this novel is not far from the truth and could have been much more graphic. He deals with mans inhumanity to man very well. Not a novel for the tender at heart. 3 stars

Lehane is always a good read. This particular mystery cum morality tale is worth reading even if you've seen the movie.

This is my second Lehane book. His action keeps you going. I'm sure it would have been better in thee unabridged version (aren't they all?), but at least you can still "follow" the people and action in this one unlike some of the abridged audio books out there.

This is a story about a kidnapped child. The ending is not happy -- but the reason is not what you think. Good Book.

Dennis Lehane delivers a story that impacts anyone who reads it. The plot bobs ans and weaves through those who should be trusted but are as corrupt as those who work the underbelly of society. Yet this story goes beyond the good and the bad and asks of the reader what would you do if you had to make a decision that would spare someone further mental and physical pain that could change their life forever and also yous ?
