I've been waiting for a book. Supposedly, it was mailed from one (large) state away on December 16th. It is not here. I've already received books from much farther away that were mailed as late at December 26th. **sigh** I really wanted that book, too. :-(

The last (and only) book that took this long to get to me, never arrived at all. I'm hoping that you're right about slow mail, though.

If it's a heavier book and coming by Media Mail, it may still arrive. I had a book that was going only 13 miles away from ONE COUNTY  over and it took almost two weeks -- in July!!!! With the holidays and all, it could just be on a slow boat (metaphorically speaking). It's also possible it was mailed a few days after being marked mailed. (Not right, I know, but it happens.)

I've been waiting for over two weeks for a book from Arizona, (I'm in Maine) and yet ordered a book from California and received it in 48 hours. Weird, huh? Don't lose faith...almost always they turn up sooner or later.

There is absolutely NO rhyme nor reason in timing -- I have had a media mail book take over two weeks to go 10 miles, yet recently received a media mail package from the other side of the country the next business day!

Thanks for the encouragement. Normally, I'm pretty patient but I usually get books in 6-8 days so I guess I'm feeling pessimistic. Having raised such a fuss, it will probably arrive today and I'll look a right fool! **eye roll** :-)

There is a reason why PBS doesn't mark books as lost for close to 30 days. Sometimes they take that long. If you ever use the PBS DC-monitor a book here and there. Sometimes they send them on a little tours of the US nowhere near in the direction they are supposed to go.

I once received a book one month after the lost date....so two months after I ordered it!  Don't give up hope.  The holidays probably made things screwy with that book.

Given that the book was mailed during the USPS's busy holiday period, I don't think there's any reason at all to lose hope. I'm still getting books that were mailed at about the same time as that--and truly, how far away they're being mailed from seems to really make no difference, unless you're talking Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico or something--those always take longer!

I've had books from halfway across the country get here in 2 days, and books from within the same state take 2 weeks. Yeah, most books do arrive within a week, but there's always a straggler or two it seems--once I had one arrive 7 months late, and the package was perfect, it was mailed just when it was marked mailed and everything.

Also, of course, there is the possibility that the person just mailed it late what with the busy-ness of the holidays and all. At any rate, I wouldn't lose hope yet. Hang in there!

I have a book that never arrived -- the report not arrived date  came and went. I got my credit back from PBS when I confirmed it didn't arrive BUT I have to go into my archives to report it arrived if it ever shows up. It was mailed at the end of November.

Hope springs eternal and I do hope that it arrives -- as much for me as for the person who sent it to me (and I assume is now out of a book credit.)

Luckily for me, it's not a book I am desperate to read.

LeeAnne--

This is a tough time of year for Media Mail, having to compete for room with all the holiday mail.  I know I've got a book I request which has gone lost, but had DC, and has been sitting at the local post office for more than 10 days.  I'm hoping it will come today.

So ... don't lose hope yet :-)

Cheers,
Catt

Yeah, it didn't come today. I got two OTHER books, though, so that's always exciting. One of the books was mailed ten day AFTER the one I've been waiting for. It came from PA, too, and the one I'm waiting for was supposedly mailed from KS. I'm in CO. Oh, well. I'll give it another couple of weeks I guess. I've already put another copy of the book on my WL.

I have had 2 books go lost recently and one that is coming from PA to here in MI that looks like it sat at one post office for a couple of weeks before it started its way up here.  Don't give up hope.  It will get there eventually :)

LeeAnne,

I think there is a slowwww reader in the Dallas PO.

Last Spring I mailed a book with DC from SW Oklahoma to California. It made it to Dallas in a few days (a 4 hr drive...). But then it didn't move for over a month. It had been declared lost by PBS. Suddenly it got delivered in CA.

The sad thing is that due to a family emergency, we were in California the day before it was!

LeeAnne, there's really no need to add this book back to your wishlist now...if you did so, you're probably at the end of the line. Let the system deal with it and once the book is officially marked lost by the system (which I think happens at 26 days or something) and if you got this book as a wishlist request, you'd be reinstated automatically at #1 in line.

Hang in there, LeeAnne. I bet that book will turn up soon.  Whenever I get concerned because one book is just not making its way to (or from!) me, I remember the book I mailed first class that went within one day of being lost before it was delivered.  There's just no telling with the mail at this time of year, especially media.

So, I didn't get the book today but I actually looked at the "Details" and guess what I discovered?! Although the book was marked "mailed" on the 16th, another label was printed on 12/31. I guess somebody marked the book sent and then never did it. I'm hoping that when the label was printed on the 31st, it was actually mailed.

I mailed a package of 2 books to someone on the 18th and when I look at the details (because I used DC) it doesn't even show that it has arrived at the post office.

I mailed it from the mail room of the hospital where I work, which I have done with other packages, and I went there today to make sure that they had sent it along to the post office.  They assured me that they did, but I hate the fact that someone has been waiting so long for these books.  I just think it's weird because I have sent out several books since the package of two and they are all well on there way.

I hope that the package will eventually reach it's destination.

Now, hey, there's an interesting development.

Hopefully that means it is winging its way to you as we speak.

Leanne - This is going to sound weird - but you can't assume the person didn't mail it in the middle of December. I once 'reprinted' a label (actually just pressed the button, to get to the pdf, but didn't actually press 'print') long after I mailed it, because it was a book that was taking a crazy long time, and I was curious just where I had mailed it that took so long. The person's profile didn't have a city/state, so the only way I could figure out to check was to print the label again.

Hmmm...that complicates things. I'm still hoping that the sender just forgot to mail the book and it didn't get into the mail until after 12/31. I feel more hopeful that it will actually arrive!
