Thought is would be nice to reciprocate and post a later book in a series to a member who had sent me an earier book in the series. Guess what! Not on auto and now in time out hell. Never doing this again. Is there any way to tell if a wish list book is on auto?

Look on your bokshelf. WLed books will be marked with a W, in red for regular request, in green with a smalller A next to the W for auto-request. But that won't tell you the position of the auto-requester in the queue.

Guess you need to PM the person first to see if they're ready to take it.

What Carol said is what I do. I always ask them if they want the book, and try to ask them to auto request and take RCs off but they don't always do that. By asking first, I'm not caught in a bind if I'm really not ready to post the book into the pool. Good luck. Pat

If you add the book to your To Be Read list, you can see the red and green W's as well.  Green W means on auto-request for the first person in line.  Red W means not on auto.

Of course, if you post to someone specifically, there's no way to tell if they have it on auto without PMing them.  Even if they do have it on auto, if they don't have any credits, it goes into 48 hr hold too.

I always PM before posting directly to someone. They might be gone, not ready for that one and not have the credits to cover it. Just safer to check before being "nice" so it doesn't turn into bumping them off of the wish list.

Surprises like this don't always benefit the member.  I have been sent some WL books from friends here who went and bought a brand new copy for me....they mail it as a surprise and when I got one it turned out to be a YA book my teenager had requested!
