A romance swap where the main character has the same name as the revealer or she is described like the revealer? Like for me the heroine would be named Mary or have Blonde hair and blue/green eyes.

A swap for Native American themed romances?

A swap for books that are really plentiful in PBS-like there has to be a minimum of 50 posted or something like that (although I think this has been done before-similar to the bookshelf swap going on now).

A no ISBN or wrong ISBN swap?  I have 1 hardback that comes up as a paperback w/that ISBN.  I have another hardback that comes up as an entirely differrent book.  I put it in Amazon and Bookmooch and here and all 3 have it listed as that other book.  Odd.  I have several others that predate ISBN.

Shoot.  I had a couple others and I can't remember them now.

How hard is it to run a swap?

I'm not organized enough to run a swap. I think you get someone who's done them before to coach you along don't you? cant' remember.I've only done a couple of swaps and keep missing out on the others seems like! they fill up too fast.

I don't have a clue other than suspect it's time consuming and probably very frustrating.

I don't even understand the blasted rules, so I never even look at them:P  And what the heck is a reveal?  You give the name of your book?  What?

And what the heck is a reveal?  You give the name of your book?  What?

yep, that's what a reveal is.  everyone who's playing picks a book that meets the rules, and you tell everyone what is it when you're asked to reveal.

really, it only looks disorganized to play, but it's not.  :)  it probably helps if you've ever done a white elephant swap game in person, or similar.  we used to do those for church youth group at the holidays.  everyone brings a wrapped presents within a certain price range, and the first person picks one to unwrap.  the second person either steals the now unwrapped gift from the first person, or picks another wrapped present.  if your unwrapped gift is taken, you can either steal from someone else (except the person who just took from you), or pick another wrapped present.

the differences from that to the basic swap here are that instead of picking a wrapped present, you're picking someone to tell you what book they're offering, and there's usually a limit to how many times a book can be stolen before it is 'out' so that swaps don't last forever.

i don't know about hosting.  i love to play in the swaps, but i don't know if i'd choose to host one unless i thought of a really cool idea and no one else wanted to do it.  that person has get all the credits from players, make the play list, to keep the front updated - which i'm sure is a lot of work, make sure the right people go, etc, and i don't know what all behind the scenes they have to do with the game moderators.

The name idea might be hard if you have an uncommon name. I've only come across a handful of books where the heroine has my name. I imagine that swap would be hard for someone with a very ethnic name. I've never come across a romance with a woman named Galina or Eunice.

I think the ISBN one is confusing and probably limiting. I don't think I have any books that meet that requirement. The other ideas are interesting though!

I think you have something there, if you open it up a little - meaning, if you make it that the heroine has something in common with the revealer instead of only the name and appearance. That could be 'the heroine has two kids like I do" or "she's 31 like I am" or she likes Shakespeare etc. You get my drift. I agree with Jillian that the name idea may close it to some people - in my case, my name is uncommon so I've never seen a heroine with my name. And I'm Hispanic, so besides the odd heroine with an Italian background, you seldom have heroines that could be described like me. Now, heroes with dark hair, eyes and olive skin you find plenty...and in England mind you! LOL!

A swap for Native American themed romances?

I'll sign up for this one! I have a Native American romance on my TBR pile that I've been dying to read.

A swap for books that are really plentiful in PBS-like there has to be a minimum of 50 posted or something like that (although I think this has been done before-similar to the bookshelf swap going on now).

This sounds like it could have been done before. And there's the chance that people have read them, if they're so plentiful.

A no ISBN or wrong ISBN swap?  I have 1 hardback that comes up as a paperback w/that ISBN.  I have another hardback that comes up as an entirely differrent book.

I'm not sure how many people have books that fall in this category - I definitely don't have any.

Yeah I guess I should have elaborated on the Name swap-I wouldn't call it that.  I was thinking were the heroine has similar features, job-or even if the heroine falls in love with a firefighter or a DR and that's who your SO is or something that connects you to her.  Even if you spent a summer in England and the heroine is Brittish.  Just something fun like that.

For the plentiful one I was thinking to call it like "There has to be Somebody who hasn't read this book yet" or similar.  I know there are a bunch of books on my RL that have over 100 posted.  Eventually, I'll get around to them.

I think I'll post in the Game forum asking how to get started hosting swaps.  I'm not working right now and DD starts school tomorrow.  So nows the time for me to try one out.

Mary - There's a sticky thread at the Games forum with Swap Rules. If you read that, you'll know everything you need to do about hosting a swap.

Now that you mentioned the name, I liked your idea about the books with plenty in the system. And you could do it with no repeats so people won't post the same books! I have a few books in that category too that I haven't read.

Oh...and my opinion of the swaps. They're so fun and totally addictive! I'm currently in 5 plus the Historical Fiction Virtual Box. We're taking signups for this one so feel free to check it out, and it's very simple for anybody who's never tried the game swaps before. You put two books in the 'box' to start (everybody has to do that), your name is put in a random list and when your turn comes, you get to pick as many books as you want. If you pick three books let's say, you have to put three back in to replenish the ones you took out. If people are interested in your books, they request them from you and you mail them! Simple as that. There are other requirements of course, like the credits, etc. but just click the link if you want to learn the details.

Well I was thinking with the plentiful swap that it could be done like this: everyone reveals say 2 books with over 50 posted or something.  Then people take turns stealing the ones they haven't read yet or would like to reread.  I guess that would be a limbo swap.  I have to read up on which swap is what.

I had some other ideas too while I was computerless and I can't for the life of me remember them now.

Mary - Or you can have people offer a choice as part of the rules. That way, you have more diversity of books and still don't accept repeats.

Limbo swaps are fun, but if you're offering two books (or there are too many people), it can take ages! I'm in one which started at the beginning of July, with 60 people and my turn was #7 and it still hasn't come because people haven't been very interested in the limbo books. Don't get me wrong, a lot of other people have gotten to play (there are like 25 already out) and I've made clear I wanted to keep the book I have, but still.

As a mod in the Games Forum, I can give you some insight into what goes on behind the scenes:  Not much!  LOL

The mods are there to hold the credits.  When you sign up for a game and your credits are sent to the host, the host then sends the credits to the mod.  The mod deposits them into a special account we have set up for this.  Example  Deposited 25 credits (date) for (host's) NEW SWAP.  Everytime I take a credit out, I have to record it:  Returned 3 credits from NEW SWAP 22 credits remaining.

One of the mods keeps track of the credit thread and finds our errors.  Trust me, we don't want to be called for messing up the Credit Thread (usually we'll remove and forget to post).

The mod also checks the list of players (before play begins) to see if anyone is on the Bad Swappers List.  Even though bad swappers are told they're on the list, they'll sometimes try to sneak in anyway.  What is a Bad Swapper?  Someone who didn't finish out a previous game, leaving their buddy stranded (didn't send books).

That's the reason for the credit deposit.  If someone drops out of a game (I'm not talking family emergencies, etc),. they will forfeit their credit to the person that should have received their item(s). They stay on the bad swappers list, however, until the item(s) is made up.  The credit stays with their buddy though.

In the case where the host runs into a problem, the mod is there to help guide them through things.  (We've kind of seen all so you can ask us for help)  If the host runs into a personal emergency, they can ask the mod to finish the game for them.

I hope this helps!

I read all the sticky posts in the games forum and they were very helpful.

I was thinking with the plentiful swap that the 2 books would be an or choice not that the person had to take or offer 2 books.  I'll think about it. I think I might look into the Native American romance swap first. That sounds like the easiest one as far as book requirements.

I would encourage any of you who are a bit hesitant about joining a swap to just jump in there and do it. It is a lot of fun and the other members of the game are more than happy to help a newbie. One caution, though. As usual, I joined too many at the beginning and I didn't know if I was coming or going and I didn't get to chat much. Now, I limit myself to 2 and I enjoy the games a lot more.

And, if it's your first game, let your mod know!  We will happily help out in any way we can!!

Oh yes go easy when you first start the games.  I got addicted and joined too many at once w/books I hadn't read yet.  I had to send them out unread and get them from the library. Luckily the library had most of them-one I ended up buying and an audio cd of because I happened across it in the UBS.  So start off slow unless you have books you've already read that work for the swap.

Michelle, if you check this out Swaps Currently Taking Sign Ups!!! :) it will let you know which new games are starting.

Hosts always delight in adding new games players so if you find one that hasn't started yet, sign up!  Let the host know you're new and they, as well as long time players, will help you along.

My new game has 2 new players and we were all happy to see them join.

Well  I think I will looking into starting one. I guess I PM one of the moderators with my swap idea and get permission first right?  Then I get approval once I have all the people signed up?  That's what I'm getting from the posts I've read.  I can just copy and paste all the rules and adjust the one's pertaining to my swap right?

Mary I like this idea!  You could call it "Be your own romance heroine"  :)  hee hee....   it's fairly easy to run a basic elephant swap, especially if you've played in a few.  The hardest part is coming up with an idea that is new and will get players.. andyou've done that already!

EAT: to answer the above questions- yes to all...

All of this stuff is just whizzing right over my head:P  I would join one if most of you guys were in it though.  Something where I knew most of the participants.  I hate being a total dummy with people I'm not comfortable & relaxed with:P
