I am getting gun shy about all these RCs that seem to define the condition of the book to the tiniest scuff mark on the dust cover.

When I pulled out a book that someone had just requested, I noticed that the dust cover was rather tattered - it's an old, well-read book.
Although there was no RC, I PM'd the member to warn them about it.

This is the response I got:

"So? I am also rather tattered and an OLD guy. Sounds like we're a good match. Please send.

Old is relative. The oldest book I have was made (not just copyrighted) in 1812. The oldest book I have had in my hands was made in the 1680's. Holding that one was something like holding the first-born the first time: intimidating and wonderful."

There ARE great people around here!!!!  We just never seem to celebrate them.

thanks for sharing.  We need more uplifting stories posted.  I actually quit playing in the forums for a few weeks as I was finding it to be all negative, bashing and attacking.  So happy to find a positive on the first day I looked in again.  Maybe spring has squashed all the cabin fever of winter.  YAHoo

I loved his reply.  It's nice to hear a sweet tale of what goes on here rather than missives.

Absolutely great to hear a good response. We hear about so few of them, and so many are just silent consents, but the bad responses get hammered out loud so fast and hard, that the newmembers really get gun shy before they ever send their first book! Wish we could get atleast one of the types of posts every week! That would really be nice!
