Are any of you guys on Goodreads? I just signed up today. Is there a way to import lists from this website onto Goodreads? Otherwise, it will take me years to get everything added on there! I'm a little confused about the setup. If any of you are on there, I'd love to know what you use it for. Also, I'd love a link to your profile so I can chat with some buds over there too!

P.S. Is it as addictive as PBS?

I'm on there and my link is in my siggie.

It's great for reviewing books and getting a ton of new suggestions from others. It's also great for setting up "bookshelves" where you can sort your genres. I've met some amazing friends through there and they have fun groups too.

You can download your lists here to .csv files and then import them to Goodreads. Super simple really. Here is Goodreads page in importing too.

import books to my account

Select a file (csv/xls/txt) to import. Check out our sample file and list of supported imports.

— or —

Or upload books by isbn from a website, Amazon wishlist, etc.
(make sure the url is publicly available, and requires no login)

Hope this helps! I love it there.

I'm on GoodReads too, although I am pretty new and haven't completely figured everything out and/or added my books. I did win a free book though, that was pretty cool. The link to my page is http://www.goodreads.com/dory662 feel free to add me as a friend too since I don't have any yet LOL.

I figured it out. :)  I'm trying it out right now. Hopefully the download will go okay. That will be so much easer!

Glad you got the importing figured out, Virginia. Most of it is pretty self-explanatory.  I'm here if you have more questions. I've been on GR for well over a year now.

Thanks so much Collette! I'm sure I'll run across a few questions. One thing I did notice is that you can import your books from here but it puts them right into your Read shelf. I'm having to go into each one and move my WL books onto "To Read, Want".  I guess that's still easier than looking them up one by one!

I'm on goodreads too. I love it! I just don't know how I'd keep my books organized without it!

If you want you can look at my shelves and see how I've organized them. You can also see what groups I've joined, etc...

Thanks Sarah!  I've never seen books more organized than yours!  So do you put your wish list books on their own separate shelf or put them under a genre category too?

I put them on a seperate shelf, and when I have time I'll add them to a genre category. I haven't added all my books to genre shelves yet, it's my newest project. I'd say I've done a little over half so far. Maybe more. I wish I'd done it from the beginning, but oh well.

You can have one book on multiple shelves. You can make a shelf exclusive (you cant have a book on both to-read and read) but not all your shelves have to be exclusive. For example, the book I am reading now (Victory Conditions) is on my currently-reading shelf and my sci-fi shelf. My wish-list shelf is exclusive. Which means that a book can't be on my to-read and my wish-list at the same time. PM me any questions you have about it here or at goodreads if you want.

Goodreads is the best.  I could never keep track of all my books without it!  Add me if you like:  http://www.goodreads.com/profile/maeven

ETA:  Not sure the link is working right, let me know if I got it wrong please! :)

Great, I've requested all of you as friends. :)  Now, do most of you find just as many recommendations on Goodreads as you do on here? I do like that you can see what people have read in the past.

I find many more through Goodreads actually since you see what others are reading with the covers. It's the covers that draw me as I'm a visual girl. lol

I'm on good reads too

http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/970820

I'm Miz_Rachel on there too -- I think.  There is also a PBS group over there too --well -two I think.

The other nice thing  is you can go through others lists and easily add things you have read from their list to yours.  I am not very organized though -- I think I am lucky to get them on my read list.

I'm always open to questions. Most of mine are sorted by author and genre and then I keep my ebooks separate too but then most of those are "blushing" books. ;)

I didn't know there were PBS groups there. I'll have to check them out. Some of your were not my "friends" so I sent a request!

Thank you everyone!  I appreciate all the suggestions and offers of help.  I have added you as friends. Now all I have to do is get things set up.

This is great!  I'll add everyone else as my friend too.  I spent HOURS on there last night trying to get more of my books moved over. I haven't moved over any of my BIR yet, but hopefully soon. I'm so addicted already!  They do make it incredibly easy to add books to your shelves. And I love all the info on the author pages. I'm nerdily excited about organizing all my books into categories.

LOL, it looked like you had been a busy girl, Virginia, since your friends get your book updates. We now have a lot of books in common. :)

Yikes! I guess I should have updated all my books before adding friends.  Oops. Sorry about that!
