My brand new kindle seemed to have a screen short out/freeze up or something.  I am so bummed I am in love with this thing and hate to go without even for a few days.  On the other hand amazon customer service was great and they say my replacement kindle should be out tomorrow or the next day at the latest.  They tried a reset over the phone but no joy.  I guess it is just a freak accident, but maybe I should get the extended warranty.  Anyone have any thoughts on those extended warranties?  How much are they?

I think they offered to let my Dad buy the warranty when he bought it at Target.  Not sure maybe that is the only bite at the apple?  Well I will get the replacement then worry about that later I guess :).

Do you have a cover with it? There has been some trouble with Kindles freezing with a certain cover. Apparently the trouble is the metal hooks zapping the Kindle. They talk about it at Mobileread.

Here.

That could help those with freezing problems. (Although I wouldn't try zapping it on purpose, but that may just be me.)

Cool, I may jump on the extended warranty then.  The replacement just arrived today.  Thanks Cindy I did check but my cover is a non-oem one and doesn't seem to have that issue.  Well cross your fingers this one lasts more than a month!

ETA: got the 2 year warranty that also covers accidents and free s&h there and back.  It was $50 and can be purchased within 30 days of buying the kindle.  I had an over $50 credit so I didn't have to pay out of pocket so to speak.
