I think I started this one, but couldn't get into it.  I think I wasn't in the mood at the time, because I generally really like Neil Gaiman.

It is a YA book. I really liked it.  I got it for my son for Christmas.  It is about a baby(toddler) whose whole family is murdered one night.  He climbs out of his crib, and out the front door and across the street into the graveyard while his family is being murdered.  The ghosts in the graveyard adopt him, raise him, and teach him how to do ghostly things, like Fade, and instill fear, pass through things.  He has ghosts teach him when he is younger, and they of course teach him stuff from their time, like Latin or the history when they were alive.

It won both the Caldecot and Hugo awards this year

It won the Newbery, not the Caldecott.  The Caldecott is for illustrations.
