He was born June 20, 1911, in Oak Glen, Illinois. In 1940 he received a B.S. from Purdue, in 1942 a Master's from Cornell University, and in 1946 a Ph.D. from Cornell. He began his teaching and research work at Purdue in 1946.
Dr. Paarlberg has traveled in some twenty nations, and has been a consultant abroad for the federal government and for private foundations. His special interests are in the areas of economic development and public policy, and he has written extensively on agricultural subjects. His book, "American Farm Policy," was published in 1964.
He is married and has two sons, Don, Jr., and Robert Lynn.« less
