Now, that we have a new WL setup so we can actually see what number books are instead of the mouse-overs, it would be great if there was a feature to re-sort, and place all the #1 positions at the top of the WL order. :-)

I agree, but I think the reason that this isn't possible is because wish lists can fluctuate as people go on and off of vacation hold (if I am understanding all that correctly). I would be happy if I could just manually sort it or something.

I emailed them a while back (I think a year or so ago now) to ask for this - apparently, once the new WL is fully implemented, you will be able to sort by position.  Although those positions fluctuate from day to day, you would just be re-ordering by their *current* position.

I was just thinking this same thing last night looking at my WL.  I hope it happens!

I am a member of Swap A DVD and you can sort your WL over there like that. I LOVE it!   Its the only feature I am  looking forward to when the "new" wishlist comes in over here.

But there are books that I've been the 1 of 1 since the week I joined.   Would hate to have that reminder at the top of my list.  I just want it to sort by author AND STAY THAT WAY.  Mine keeps resetting in title order.

The other sites sort by the position in your WL ranking, not necessarily where you are in each WL line.

I am with Emily, my #1s are all the slow/never moving ones.

I wouldn't think that would be that hard to code, maybe they add it.

Melanie,  maybe I am not understanding,  but you can sort by position on SADVD.    In the drop down menu, you can choose to sort by rank, title, position, or date. I have had it set like that since I joined.      Maybe I'm not talking about the same thing you all are lol!!

Not sure if this belongs here - seldom participate in discussion forum.  I recently listed a book that is on 12 people's wish list, but it is not being requested because it's a different edition than the wish list item (same book, dif. cover).  Is there any way I can let those people who are wishing for this book that I've posted it?

Suppose not.  People who are wishing for a certain book would do well to do a search every once in a while, just to see if it's out there and the system is not notifying them.

Thanks for listening.

Did I misunderstand what I read about the new system?
I thought we would have to rank our books ourselves in order of preference. meaning we must say which is #1, 2, 3  etc. so that each book's points would accumulate by rank.
In order to keep the other sorts a new field would need to be added I think.

Lorraine - the site will send an email to people letting them know a similar book has been requested. Many people turn off that notification because they only want the edition they have wishlisted. If the WLed version is the same binding you could tag the WLed book with something like "same as ISBN#####". You can check to see how many copies of the version you have are in the system by adding it to you reminder list. If there are a lot of copies, odds are the wishers are aware of the other version and just don't want it. I've seen wishers on the HC, audio, and Large Print while there are 800+ MMP in the system.

Emily, I meant that it is an OPTION to list the books according to poition, not the ONLY way to do it. Also, I don't understand, if the #1 spots are the slowest moving books for you, how do you get any books on your WL?

I don't need to see I've moved from #26 to #12 in the last several months, if that still doesn't mean I'm going to get that book anytime soon.

If I can quickly scan my 1st positions, I will know when and whether to set an auto-request if I am going on vacation, rather than placing a vacation hold and possibly losing out on a book that may take another several months to years for the book to be posted again. I can also retype my RCs to be specific fo a book most likely to be posted. I can also watch it and see, no, the likelyhood is that it is highly unlikely it ever WILL get posted and it's time to just buy it cheap at half . com.

Right now, I have 197 WL books. That's scanning 4 pages to find my #1 & #2 positions.

Anita, That "New" WL hasn't been instituted yet." Those descriptions have been up for like a year and a half, now.

From what they've said to me via email, they are still planning to use the ranking system, though perhaps not precisely as described in the "new WL" description.

I imagine that they would have ranking separate from the "resort" feature (it would make sense to have the ability to sort by rank and "WL points" as well as by position).  So you could have your books displayed however you would like (personally, I don't see why they don't let you simply set your preferred view in your settings, and then always display in that mode - like Emily, some of us don't like the "Title Order" default view).

All these things pretty much have to be separate fields in the database - it's just a question of how much they want to clutter up their interface by showing all this information, and possibly confusing us by allowing us to sort by it.
