I read this book many years ago. A co-worker lent it to me, even though I really didn't want to read it at the time. I am so glad I did read it. This book includes some wonderful stories. Heartwarming, tear-jerking, happy, sad - it's all here. A very good read.

It was a very good sequel to "The Greatest Generation" ... full of letters and more stories which Brokaw received after the publication of his first book. It could continue on and on with so many stories. I don't think I would ever tire of hearing. This generation has been quiet for so long about their experiences going through the depression and WWII. It's good to finally hear the stories and attempt to understand what happened and what these wonderful people went through during that difficult time.

A very large print version of the Tom Brokaw book about the 60s, his favorite generation. Could it be because he's part of it? Saw Brokaw recently hosting a seminar and found him to be literate and well read, and was impressed enough by the evening to get his book when I found it. I actually didn't want the large type, but that was all I found that day so I took it. Ready to pass it on now, as frankly the large type bothers me. I read so fast, I am used tomuch smaller type and can move through the book quickly with smaller type - so whoever wants it ...

Can be enjoyed by everyone - especially poignant for those who lived in this generation.

"When I wrote about the men and women who came out of the Depression, who won great victories and made lasting sacrifices in World War 2 and then returned home to begin building the world we have today--the people I called the Greatest Generation--it was my way of saying thank you. But I was not prepared for the avalanche of letters and responses touched off by that book--more stories and wisdom from that generation and time. I had written a book about America, and now America was writing back."

I thought it would have more letters. That portion of the book was fascinating and moving to me. I still would recommend it to anyone who would like firsthand accounts of being away from loved ones... from the soldier and from the families' points of view.

Some of the stories brought tears to my eyes. The men and women who lived, fought and died in WWII were truly the "Greatest Generation" of Americans that ever were.
