A story of a girl who has no one and learns to live on her own. While sad at the beginning it goes through a down part of her life and has to find herself. The first time I read it it held no meaning to me the second time I read the book it made sense and I made a connection to it. A very well written book that I would recommend for all teens.

Left on her own when her family dies in a terrible disaster, fifteen year old Green is haunted by loss and by the past. Struggling to survive physically and emotionally in a place where nothing seems to grow and ashes are everywhere, Green retreats into the ruined realm of her garden. But in destroying her feelings, she also begins to destroy herself, erasing the girl she'd once been as she inks darkness into her skin. It is only through a series of mysterious encounters that Green can relearn the lessons of love and begin to heal enough to tell her story.

Wonderfully descriptive story of a girl who travels through the dark tunnel of grief and loss and emerges to the light and hope of a future. Great story.

This story is thin but mighty. It's about survival and healing from an emergency disaster and terrible loss. The main character is no more than just a teenager girl but she's left to fend on her own, and eventually to find her own way in creating a new world. It's a very touching. I would strongly recommend it.
