I BELIEVE you can & will accomplish all your goals and maintain the regimen you set for yourself! I do all the things on your list, too - but the edible plants are limited to herbs and container veggies since I live in  a townhouse. I do have two rainbarrels on my patio, though - they really come in handy - especially during the summer. Have you thought about a worm farm? They compost your food scraps and make organic FERTILIZER as a byproduct. I made personalized cotton grocery bags for Christmas gifts in '08 - everyone loved seeing their name in print on the bag - Sherrye...Saving the earth one bag at a time!

If  I can't recycle or compost the packaging, DON'T BUY IT!
