"You're frocing me to take desprate measures'" she said.
His reply was very soft. "There's nothing you can do."
He had left her no choice.
The decisive click was abnormally loud in the slience of the room.
Calmly D tugged the top edge of her bodice away from her chest. She held the key above the narrow gap.
M's eyes widened as he understood what she intended. "You wouldn't."
As he started around the dresser, D dropped the key into her bodice, making certain it slipped beneath her corset. She sucked in her stomach and midriff until she felt the cold metal slide to her navel.
"Damn it!" M reached her with startling speed. he reached out to touch her, then jerked his hands back as if he had just encountered open flame. "Take it out," he commanded, his face dark with outrage.
"I mean it, D!"
"It's fallen too far down. I'll have to take my dress off."

Oh this sounds really good. My TBR pile is already toppling over and I went to the UBS today and picked up about ten that were on my list of books I still "needed." Now I'll have to start a new list!!!
Oops...sorry, Susanna, I wasn't even sure that was it. But hey...now you have another one to add to your TBR. :-P
So yet another historical since that's practically all I read:
It was her. It could not be her. Lady X was a blotchy, ill-kempt creature, swollen like a grape and not as appetizing.
Before him stood a faultlessly elegant lady, posed with her head high and her shoulders back, showing off a truly prepossessing figure, if one was inclined to prefer a bit of plump abundance with one's morning cup of tea...
She wouldn't be elegant in his arms. She would be earthy and untamed and shameless--
Y blinked. That thought had flown through his mind like an outlaw's arrow, coming from nowhere.
It wasn't her.
Yet lively cat-green eyes gleamed at him knowingly.
"You seem taken aback, my lord. And rather boring. In the last week I've spent more money than the Prince Regent's new mistress! Have you nothing to say about my accomplishment?"
She looked like a prostitute--a beautiful, opulent, extravagantly endowed prostitute with sexual fire alight in her eyes.
She was the embodiment--oh, dear God, that body!--of every man's most wicked dream.
Sorry I've not been on the computer in a couple of days, and have not done this before, but here goes:
T was alone in the stage coach mulling another failed trip to Kent, when a woman flung herself into his lap, wrapped her arms around his neck, and burrowed in, crushing her face against his.
"What in the name of---" he hissed. He lifted his arms to try to pry hers from about his neck.
"Hush" she whispered urgently. "Please."
A man's head peered into the coach.
"I beg your pardon." He jerked his head hurriedly back, and vanished from view.
The woman in his lap had gone completely rigid, apart from her rapid breathing. And for a moment neither of them moved. T had an impresseion of rustling dark fabric, a lithe form, and the scent of spice and vanilla and roses and .....well, female. This last made his head swim a little.
Startling, granted. But not precisely unpleasant.
Apparently deciding a safe interval had elapsed, she took her arms from about his neck and slid from his lap into the seat a distance away from him.
"And just when I was growing accustomed to you, Madame," he said warly. He touched her arm gently. "Allow me to intro-----ow!"
He jerked his hand back. What the devil- --?
His eyes followed a glint to her lap.
Poking up from her neatly folded gloved hands was a . . . was that a knitting needle?
It was! She'd jabbed him with a damned knitting needle.
I didn't mean for it to be so long but got carried away.
I have that series - well, I actually have all of her books right now:P - and it's pretty decent. Not the best stuff I've ever read, but pretty good. That scene is so cute. It's hard to forget. I even wish you'd posted more of it:P The part where she threatens to "prick" him again (am I remembering that correctly?) is too funny. I'll see what I can find. Y'all know I'm slow...
They're all pretty decent books. Nothing earth-shattering, but worth a read. It has a more interesting premise for a series than the usual fluffy stuff. And there's a complete story there that starts with book 1 and ends with book 3, which is always preferable to starting with a book 1 H&H and meandering through all of their family & friends until you run out of people to cram into the series:P. Beauty and the Spy was book one - although I read this one first too - and then Ways to be Wicked is book two, and then The Secret to Seduction was the last one. It's hard to remember precisely, but I think I liked that one the best. I personally think The Perils of Pleasure is her best book so far. But I know I enjoyed it more than some others did.
Will try to get the next excerpt up by tomorrow night, btw. I'm painting & redecorating the kitchen, so I've been busy all day.
