‘Give it up, Miss D,’ he warned.  ‘Or should I call you just plain D, since you are passing yourself off as a lad.  Did no one mention there is a difference between men and women?  Or is that part of the game you and P are playing?’

Heat rushed to her cheeks.  She combed her hair back with her fingers, wishing she were a man.  Then she’d run him through just for the sport of it and enjoy the shock on his stubborn face.  Here was one man who needed his comeuppance.

But for now she needed to escape.  She started moving toward the window in the bedroom, praying her barricade would hold him long enough for her to find a way out.  Perhaps there was a back servants’ entrance?

‘Very well,’ came his curt response to her silence. ‘we shall do this your way.’

Before she could blink, he rammed the door with such force, the desk began moving as if it weighed nothing.  The settee started to tip, the front legs catching on the carpet.  The Duke of C’s head, then his shirtless body started coming through the door.  An angry muscle worked in his jaw, and his eyes were hard and bright.

F (Miss D) ran to the bedroom window.  They were some twelve, fifteen feet above the street. She’d jump if she had to. Anything to save herself from this madman.

Tossing back the curtains, she attempted to open the window, but the sash was locked tight. She heard him shut the hallway door, heard footsteps behind her, knew he was close.

Spinning to face him, she reached for the first weapon she could find, a book.  Its weight felt good in her hand. She threw it at him as hard as she could and reached for another.

Her first aim was true.  A corner of the book caught him in the temple.

C stopped and raised a hand to his forehead, just as she heaved the other, a heavier volume, at him. The book tore from its binding in the air before catching him square in the chest.

He grabbed for the book as if upset it had torn. ‘Would you be more careful?’ he ordered.

This is a historical published in 07.  Hero is very POed because she barricaded him out of his apartment.

Here are a few more hints:

Hero is a twin.  He had been kidnapped at berth and only became the Duke of C after his brother found him.

This is part of a series (but don't sweat, it can stand on its own feet!)

I can't think of anything so someone else go......

I think this is a sign that my TBR pile is too big. I need to read some more to use for the game!

Don't let it die......

Alrighty.. if no one wants to go, I will give it a shot...

It didn't take S bit a moment to take in the sight before him and consider what his sister would discover if she ventured into the library.

C all topsy-turvy and tousled.  Her eyes smoky with desire, her lips swollen from the force of his kisses.  All but ruined, utterly and so completely.

Then he took another glance at this disheveled, gloriously aroused woman.  He'd done this?

"C?! Where are you?" H's insistent voice clamored yet again.

S glanced once more at C, then shoved her into the middle of the room.

"Do something," he whispered, waving his hands at her rumpled, half-on gown.

"Like this," she teased back, pulling her bodice down lower and coming toward him.

Gads, this was going to be a disaster, he thought, even as his gaze went hungrily back to the site of her perfect breasts.

*******

"There you are!" H said, a bit of annoyance to her words.  Then again, his sister was easily annoyoed.  "I was calling you from the second landing.  Didn't you hear me?"

"No, I fear I'd succumbed to the charms of..."

S held his breath.

"... a delightful bit of poetry.  It was quite stirring."

Here are some clues:

- The heroine is in love with her best friend's brother

- There is some magic involved!
