Beautifully written, although harrowing at times, story of the author's life on an hacienda in South America. She was very young at the time and certainly remarkable and resourceful under very difficult circumstances. Highly recommended.

This was a great read and what made it even more interesting is the fact that it is true and it occured in the 1970's. This teenage marries this older South American man of dubious past and great charm but glorious heritage. After a few years they decide to leave England, her home, and go back to his Hacienda and estate in Venezuela, on the edge of the Andes. It is an exciting trip involving many days and means of transportation. She is led to believe that it is a magical and wondrous place in Venezuela, but finds out that although it is a hacienda and extensive it is in total shambles, no electricity, no plumbing - just a roof over her head. He leaves her for long periods of time and she learns to fend for herself and her children. She is very flexible and tolerant and being very young helps. She works hard to build the place up, has children and eventually makes a rich life for herself. It is well written and a story you can hardly put down.
