This book made me sick to my stomache. Not just because it was gory. Harris has taken his iconic characters and perverted them into cartoonish reflections of their former selves. It is long winded, gruesome, and generally horrible. I am a huge fan of Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs and this was a sore disappointment.
This book was a little hard to get into in the beginning, however it turned out to be a good book. It was very gory, but I liked the ending. The ending was not what I expected. The action is fast and very gory, if you have a good imagination this book will keep you up at night.
I loved this book! I was so disappointed in the movie. The movie was nothing like the book. If you like Silence of the Lambs, you gotta get this one! I know I'm sick, but I absolutely loved the ending.
It has been 7-years Dr. Hannibal Lecter escaped from FBI custody. Mason Verger(one of Lecter's victims) is obsessed with revenge upon him. This is when FBI agent Clarice Starling gets involved. This book is a chilling portrait of insidiously evolving evil.
Red Dragon was brilliant. Silence of the Lambs was even better. Hannibal - not so much.
I do not understand why Harris is trying to make Lecter a sympathetic character. I do not believe it can be done. It certainly wasn't down with this book. I'm not going to waste my time with the sequel - Hannibal Rising.
The second star is because it is a compelling read because of the writing and story-telling ability of the author. I wish he'd find someone else to write about.
