Ghost Ship: The Mysterious True Story of the Mary Celeste and Her Missing Crew by Brian Hicks  http://www.paperbackswap.com/book/details/9780345466655-Ghost+Ship+The+Mysterious+True+Story+of+the+Mary+Celeste+and+Her+Missing+Crew

I was walking out of the library yesterday and I glanced at a shelf of books and this title and cover caught my eye.  I grabbed it out of curiosity.  I was going to put it back because this is not really my genre.  History..blah!  LOL.  Anyway, something made me take it home.  I read just the 10 or so pages of the prologue and I am totally hook....and yes...kind of creeped out.  This seems like it's going to be quite the mystery.

ooh! That does sound good.  I saw a thing on the History channel or maybe Discovery about the Mary Celeste and I had goosebumps watching it.  I love a good mystery, especially a real one.

So far I am really enjoying this book.  It reads more like fiction than history. Who would have thought I would be interested in some late 1800s ship? Gotta give it to the library for prominently displaying books that you wouldn't think of picking out on your own. YAY!

April - thanks for sharing and let us know what you think when you have finished. I have found a number of books to be quite enjoyable that I never would have read or sought out if it hadn't jumped out at me on a shelf display. You are right -- who would pick up a history book about a ship --- BLAH!  But, now you have me intrigued............. Keep us posted.

Sorry, I haven't posted in a while.  I wish I was a faster reader and had more time to fit reading into my schedule.  Anyway, I am about 2/3 of the way through.  This is such a good book.  It's so interesting on how the early newspapers ran away with a small bit of info and totally skewed the whole public outlook of the situation.  Not much has changed in over 100 years!  Lot's of mystery surrounding this little ship.  So glad I found it.  This author has kept it interesting fast paced, and I don't mind so much that it's history.  :P

I finally finished this book.  I really enjoyed it.  I found out so many interesting things...not just about this mysterious ship, but about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and other things that happened  or were somehow tied to this ship.   I will still probably not deliberately seek out history type books, but I am glad I happened upon this one.  :)

sounds good! I've found some goodies on those library display shelves! sometimes I'm tempted to pull some stuff off the shelf myself and display it! the only ones they display are the new ones though then there's maybe one other diplay with a theme each month
